335i GT w/ Active Autowerke Active8 Tune Thread
Hello F34 friends. I'll be doing a really good review of my GT in due time. But for now I will start a thread on the Active8 tune. There seems to be very little coverage of this tune, specifically for the GT.
Because who tunes a GT, right? Well I am... My tune should be arriving Wednesday from a forum member who sold his and wants to go bigger and better. I just want something simply for plug and play fun. I paid $400 for it and I believe that it is well worth it. I will try to install it myself. If I fail to get the Camshaft position sensor in, then I will get it installed professionally from a local shop for $120. My next mod will be a catless DP from VRSF. That will only cost $250 and installed for about $80. So for under $900, I'm getting 60 extra Wheel HP and 65 extra Wheel Trq. What a bang for my buck!! I'm very excited for this and I hope you will be too. I'll update this thread accordingly . -Sean |

Personally $120 is robbery for Active8 install, JB4 installs are $100 (and it requires much more work) it should be around $50-75 tops (for Stage1 tunes) a Pro knows how to get into the camshaft easy..
jamoka3 how hard was it for you ?

The first time, i installed the harness i removed the air box, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to get at and see the cam sensor. Plus the stock air box is real easy to remove...
Be sure to hear that "click" sound when pushing the AA8 harness sensor in place. Now i'm so used to it it takes like 5 mins. lol

Do it yourself. The camshaft sensor is a PITA, but you can do it. Don't pay $120. Unless you're getting the DP installed at the same time. Even then, maybe $100 total.
I reviewed this tune for my N20 and I'm still loving it! Cheers!

Okay guys. I installed it myself, saved some money. It was worth it, because of the learning involved. I have the tune set to Map 7, and so far so good. I have to clear a code, because it seems a sensor wasn't pushed in all the way.
Nonetheless, everything is fantastic. My 0-60 Time has dropped significantly to 4.6 sec, from 5.25 sec. This is very common amongst a Stage 1 tune, a .5 sec decrease. Here are 2 videos comparing stock vs the tune. WITH TUNE: WITHOUT TUNE |

Love it. This tune is crazy good. What did you time it with? Did you use the lap timer app? Just watching the video it almost looks like you dropped a whole second off your 0-60, although I'm sure it's a little less than that. Have you done any runs in any other mode, other than launch control? A map 7 default for the N55? What gas are you running? Notice you did the runs with a quarter tank - nice.
Funny, my camshaft sensor wasn't plugged all the way in initially and I got a CEL and a drivetrain error. After I pushed it in, the error went away, and the CEL cleared itself after the car had been run for a few miles and restarted a few times. Glad you did it yourself. So much more fun that way. Cheers!

I took the avg of 6 stop watch times, lol. I don't have a vBox yet . I have not used any other modes yet. I've done a few runs with DSC off, but not recorded. LC is the fastest and brake boosting in sport plus is very nice. Map 6 is default, Map7 raises boost .3 psi. Map 8 and 9 is for Race gas and better hardware. I used 93 Octane, Shell, BP, or Mobil.
Now here is a problem. I cleared the code, and then it came back a day later, then a day after that I got drive train malfunction. I KNOW the plug is in TIGHT on the cam sensor. So now, I've had the Bypass plug on for 24 hours, and the fkin engine light went away. I have yet to drive it over 20 miles with the bypass in though to make sure it stays away. I will plug the Active8 in again using Map 5, and see what happens. If i still get a code, I'm going to send the box and wires back to Active and hope they send me a brand new one. If then that causes the same problem, GOODBYE ACTIVE8, HELLO FLASH TUNE, lol. I will keep you up to date Quote:
