At 51,000 miles a trusted garage tells me my 2014 328i front bushings are 'coming apart' and that's why rough ride over potholes. $920 including required alignment. Sound right to you folks (can't say guys anymore).

Id say it is possible if the car has been ridden on rough roads for a lot of its life. I'd want to see pics of exactly which bushings. A good indy will physically show you exactly what they are talking about in this situation.

For normal use, the factory bushings are unofficially rated at 100k or so I believe.

Report back with your outcome. Im interested because I have a 2014 as well and plan to keep the suspension fresh.

$920 minus alignment puts you at $800 (in round numbers)...

How much of that is parts? What part numbers?

How much is labor / what is the shops labor rate?

It's unusual for front suspension bushings to go bad that soon unless you're driving somewhere like in the Northeast. I have 110,000 miles on my 335i including a lot of track miles and the bushings are in decent condition.

With that being said, it's not a hard job. You basically replace the tension struts and control arms each front corner. If they are replacing all that and doing an alignment, I don't think $920 is completely unreasonable.

You trust them? Safely jack up your car and crawl underneath to see for yourself. (Actually wouldnt need to jack up car if you just turn wheel enough.)
Or see if wheel has play when jacked up.

Why ask us, you have the eyes to see if it's true or not?

You're in the Bay Area? Highly unlikely that you have bad bushing that early. Might be a mechanic just trying to manufacture a problem. The rough ride over potholes might just be due to runflat tires.

However, it is possible if you leave your car parked outside and are especially rough on the car that your bushing are starting to go. The only way to know for sure is to look for yourself or get a second opinion.

51K...possible, but in my experience the rubber/fluid-filled bushings on both thrust and control arms are typically good to 100K+ miles.

I'd have the mechanic show you the arms/ bushings and demonstrate the "play" they exhibit. As they age the rubber will crack and one will see signs of fluid leakage...difficult to imagine the bushings exhibiting these signs at this low mileage.

Honestly OP does not surprise me one bit, i'd honestly just buy the parts yourself and have a friend with some knowledge do it, should be half that im guessing
