F30 Painted Front reflectors?
I recently replaced my front orange reflectors with matching painted ones for my black 340i in the front.
But I just realized I have my state inspection next month. Has anyone here in MA passed a state inspection with deleted front reflectors? I mean I could definitely put them back on if I fail, but it is a hassle putting them back on and off. |

Not as much of a hassle as when someone smacks into your parked black car some night because they didn't see it. Vanity shouldn't over-rule sanity.
Oh, wait, you're in Boston? Never mind, there are no bad drivers there. |

Have you installed the painted reflectors yet? I have had mine sitting in my kitchen for 2 weeks...bit apprehensive to put them on as I've heard it is a process. Curious to know how it went for you...how long it took and what you used to get all the residue off once you took the original off. Thanks!

But seriously, if it wasn't a problem then there wouldn't be a federal DOT regulation that requires them, in addition to state laws. |

Now it is a little hard to push the oem reflectors out, I was a little scared at first but I used a flat head and put a small towel wrapped around it and applied some force/pressure pushing it from the outside..and it popped right out for me. Afterwards, it was straightforward and I just used my fingers and rubbed the adhesive from the inside off and placed the new reflectors in. It took about 20-30min total as it took awhile to get the residue and adhesive off. Last edited by danx978; 02-23-2018 at 08:58 AM.. Reason: forgot to answer one question |

I understand its part of the federal DOT regulation..I just haven't seen any real problems here with those in my part of town in Mass. Like I've said before, a lot of mod cars here I noticed replaced their front reflectors with either painted or tinted ones. I asked a couple of my buddies after this post, as well who's done the same, they mentioned they never had any issues with getting pulled over or with state inspections (most likely the inspector either didn't care or they knew them). Overall, I just don't see it as real big issue (my opinion, now god forbids if someone smacks into my car, then I'll accept that responsibility)

You typically only require one amber side and with the headlight(turn signal) wrapping around the corner covering the side you don't really need the reflector unless someones' trying to be an ass.
Edit: You may run into trouble if you've coded the amber turn signals out to just turn on when used depending where you're located. Last edited by M2Rush; 02-23-2018 at 09:37 AM.. |

Had the painted ones for almost 3yrs w/ no issues on my previous F30. This time, I them wrapped w/ white reflective paper.
