Thanks OP just moved from the kenu airframe to the Koomus CD air. Works great, brings the phone closer to you, easier to use at lights. Thanks!!

Nice! Could you take a picture (not with your cellphone obviously ) and provide some feedback. Is it not too difficult to reach for the programmable memory buttons or does it not stand in the way of the control display? Thanks a lot!

I use this one from Koomus - http://www.amazon.com/Koomus-Air-Ven...oomus+air+vent

It's smaller than the other vent mount that was shown. I use it primarily to keep an eye on traffic if I am going across town since my pre-NBT system has horrible traffic display. It's also easy to throw in my bag on trips and use the phone for GPS in rental cars.

I also have the Kenu but it does not tilt/swivel and I have found some cars where it's not too useful - like the round vents in the CLA I rented last week in Germany.

with the Koomus CD Air, do you find that you give up the versatility of either using it on left side vent, or even taking it to another car where the CD slot isnt as nicely located relative to the rest of the dash?

kinda torn between the Koomus CD Air or the Air mentioned in the comment above

My friend makes these and gave me a free one for review purposes. It's really well made, materiel isn't cheap and it looks clean.

+1 Actually on top of the cupholder lid. iPhone 5s fits like a glove and won't slide around in hard maneuvering.

something tells me its part of the whole center console trim piece, and not something that can be added on

edit: yeah

edit 2: looks like it is available

The CD air would probably fit in most cars and if you want to move it to another car (for example when traveling), just keep the expanders handy. they are extremely small so I keep mine in my glove box.

I did get one for my wife's Lexus RX 450h, and the CD air did not fit. The CD slot in that vehicle is oddly designed and so the holder did not stay in properly.

I personally have a vent mount that I use for travelling as it is so small and easy to move my CD air stays in the BMW.

Hi I find this solution. It overcomes the hassle with connecting your cable to your phone. Also it looks quite decent http://shpws.me/KqFE

I just hold mine. It's simply too hard to text and send emails when the phone is mounted in a holder.

Vent clip mount with a magnetic target coupled with a few plates inside my phone case. Also, rerouted the USB iDrive interface from the center console to the driver's side storage compartment with a flat lightning cable so I can close the box.

No finagling with clips or suction cups or any other nonsense. Totally clean. I just take it out of my pocket, stick it on and go.

I have screen mirroring now, so i just turn that on and throw my phone in the center console. But I use this mount I bought at Walmart. I mounted it on that little strip just to the right of the cup holders and put the small metal plate inside my case.

Based on my experience, there's pros and cons with each approach.

Cupholder:
+ Securely held
- Harder to see (down low)
- Takes up at least one cupholder

CD:
+ Securely held
+ Good visibility
- Obscures buttons/dash

Magnetic vent mount (what I have now):
+ Very good visibility (up high, adjacent to iDrive screen)
+ Very easy/quick to mount/dismount
- Blocks some airflow
- Hard stops will tilt the phone/mount up. Hard turns will rotate the phone slightly, but I haven't seen it fall off yet (surprisingly)

So many ideas. I just toss it in the cup holder and call it done. I hate stuff hanging off the dash.....even if it's a clean install.
