Software update problem

Hi I have a 2012 328i F30

Current software is ME-8.011.000

The software update file UPD03007.bin on bmw.com/update when I enter my VIN should update to ME-8.5.5

When I put the FAT32 formatted USB drive into the centre armrest usb audio interface and try to update it says that my current software is most recent and doesn't need updated.

Does this mean the ME-8.011.000 is really more new than ME-8.5.5?

If it does surely BMW have the numbering system all wrong.

Please help. This will be on my OCD mind forever while driving the new (to me) car otherwise!

That's very common. BMW does a poor job of keeping the software updates on the website current. I've owned BMWs since 2005 and only once found updatable software on their website.

8.11.0 is higher than 8.5.5

Yeah, I figured it meant 8.11 which would be more up to date.
It’s just odd they have it as 8.011 which confuses things.

Heard back from BMW

“I can confirm that the software update “UPD03007.bin contains software version ME-8.005.005. If your software is ME-8.011.00 then your software is already up to date.

I understand that this labeling system may cause confusion, but I hope this information helps clarify things.”

Stupid way to have the update numbered gut reasonable response time to online query so can’t complain.
