Front Corner Parking Sensor Fell In
So I was walking around the car the other day and noticed my front right corner parking sensor is pushed in/fell in slightly (not flush with the bumper). There is no sign of damage around the sensor so its not from hitting anything.
See attached picture of the pushed in sensor and the other corner sensor (for comparison) which looks fine. Anyone seen this issue before? Should I be worried about water leaking in and corroding the sensor?

Got a small hit and that same sensor fell inside of my bumper, all I did was unscrew the area around where the reflector is (in front of the front tire) and I took a flashlight and pushed the sensor back into the clip. Here is a guide to remove that housing in front of the tire (up to step 4) http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1003296

The area behind the bumper is not sealed from all elements, and the sensor is designed to live in an environment that gets water and moisture. It is a sealed unit.
It may have simply fallen out/gotten loose from the horrible vibrations from these RFTs. LOL But yes, you should be able to just loosen/remove the fender shield liner and reach in to push back.

A few of my rear ones looked liked that when I put them back in after my Invisihitch installation. There is a rubber o-ring around it that needs to be seated properly. As mentioned above don't worry about weather exposure.

Thanks for the advice guys! I will see if I have time to pull the fender liner to fix the sensor. Otherwise I will wait till my next service and have the dealer do it. Good to know it's sealed.

Parking sensor pushed in
Thanks for the above which was useful today - I'm adding some pictures of mine which went in for a reason unknown.
The parking sensor bracket appears to be held by a sticky silicone pad - I cleaned it up, peeled off the dirty pad and used strips of double-sided foam tape to re-insert the sensor and bracket. My bracket had an unused second hole, probably for some option that I'm too mean or poor to own. The parking sensors however, I would not be without. |
