Question For You If You Have Replaced Your Downpipe?

Question For You If You Have Replaced Your Downpipe? Did you replace any related parts during your installation such as a gasket, 0-ring, clamps, nuts, bolts, etc? I usually replace parts like this especially if they are under harsh conditions like the exhaust system. Please let me know your experience so that I can buy parts to have ready during my downpipe installation? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Here's the related parts list from top (engine) to bottom (midpipe):
1) Pre-Converter O-Ring (metal gasket) 18-30-7-553-601 $17.72

2) Pre-Converter Clamp 11-65-7-620-508 $20.32

NEW DOWNPIPE- with two welded brackets that each have a bolt hole

Nuts & Bolts?- There are two brackets on the downpipe, each with a hole. There is a bracket with matching holes, called the Converter & Pipe Bracket (18-32-7-643-425 $39.73) that the downpipe must bolt to. A dealer told me that the nut is an M8 (18307525607 $1.27) but I haven't been able to determine what the bolts are. Any ideas? I assume these nuts and bolts might have to be replaced and I don't know what size/part# bolts to order.

4) Converter & Pipe Retainer Ring (Bottom Clamp) 18-30-7-620-349 $26.70 A dealer tech told me that these bottom clamps often don't come off and go back on very well so he makes sure that he has a replacement handy.

We recommend replacing the gaskets with downpipes, most will be fine re-using the stock gaskets if they are still in good condition

You need one gasket and two clamps to do it properly. Looks like you linked the proper ones.

As Mike said, you may find that your clamps or gaskets come off easy and are in good, reusable condition - like mine were. But you have no way of knowing until its two late.

Thanks for the reply! What about those M8 nuts and I assume bolts that go with them. Those are the types of fasteners that seem to always rust out and seize together on exhaust systems. Any issues on yours? Any idea on the bolt size? Thanks again!

I did not need any additional bolts or nuts at all. My down pipe came with brackets and bolts in the exact same position as OEM. I re used factory nuts so I cannot comment on size.

Someone else may be able to but I dont want to steer you wrong.

Okay. Thanks for the photos! That makes sense now that the dealer parts guy said something like the bolts or studs are already there and I would just need the two M8 nuts. All of the photos that I've seen of the Fabspeed downpipe show holes, but no bolts or studs. (Same with photos of other brands) I just need to find out if the Fabspeed comes with bolts. Thanks again!

+1, I got lucky with the lower gasket on my first install, not so much the 2nd time, it came out all mangled and was unusable.

Replace gaskets as a minimum imho. i did gaskets and clamps. May as well just do it right since you're in there. PLUS you're in NJ, the roads are horribly dirty.

Thanks! I have a Fabspeed catted on the way. Did yours come with bolts or studs like the stock downpipe, or just the holes to insert bolts?

All the Fabspeed photos I've seen just have holes. I was told by dealer that the nuts are M8. So I'm trying to find out how long of a bolt I should buy. Just stopped at Lowes and they have stainless steel M8 bolts in 20mm long and 30mm long. (25.4mm= 1 inch). Do you think one of those two sizes will work?

How do you like your Fabspeed catted? What differences did you notice?

i forget, it was so long ago. Do remember i had the stock clamps and gasket and so we needed nothing else. You should be fine. As for feel, etc., it was the very last thing done to the car, which already had all the other stuff you see in my sig. Easily felt the added push so well worth it imho plus no CEL and no smell either.

Oh yeah, no drone, kept the stock pipes downward. Car is relatively quiet and fast. Louder is not always faster... plus i love sleeper cars.

Great! I'm adding Fabspeed to std midpipe and M Performance exhaust but I'm going to add BM3 Stage2 and tune the exhaust burbles down to avoid drawing attention of all the stealth cop cars in my area.

Outside the car looks stock but stealth because of subtle changes. 2015 335i xDrive M-Sport with blacked out trim and front grill in Sapphire Black Metallic with color matched front fender and rear bumper reflectors. BMW emblems hood, trunk & wheels all carbon fiber black/white. Sport black diffuser under rear bumper. Slightly lowered with Eibach spring kit. Stock silver 400M wheels but with 245/40-18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Brakes upgraded to M Sport but with gloss black calipers with white Brembo logos. Just ordered smoked lenses for the turn signals on the side mirrors, a very subtle change! Fun stuff!!!

In case it helps....

This is exactly what I bought in addition to the actual down pipe for my N26.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Edit: pic not loading?

Thanks for your help! I ordered the two clamps and gasket. At Lowe's I found stainless steel M8x20mm bolts, nuts, washers and lock washers. Got M8x30mm too in case more length is needed so I think I'm set!
Man, I love the spring when the sun comes out, flowers sprout up and new car stuff gets delivered almost every day! You can hear the turbos whine and almost smell the burnt rubber in the mornings. Life is good!

Here's the related parts list from top (engine) to bottom (midpipe):

These are 3.5'' N55 PWG parts right? Everything i am seeing says these are not for EWG, but you later said these are the ones you ordered?

My post was 8 months ago, but I'm sure it would have been what I ordered. I have a 4" (2015 335ix N55 EWG) model downpipe.

You can doublecheck the part numbers by giving your VIN number to GetBMWParts dot com where I ordered my parts. And you can also check on realoem dot com. Good luck!

The problem is that both of the websites you mentioned supposedly give the wrong part number for the turbo to DP clamp. This was mentioned on other threads. For example see here:

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ht=18307606136

VRSF also shows that 18307606136 is for the 4'' clamp which differs from what you said. https://www.vr-speed.com/vrsf-4-turb...8-n20-n55.html

At this point i am just going to go with the other threads that show 18307606136 for the 4'' EWG turbo to DP clamp and 18307581970 for the corresponding gasket. Those are also discussed here: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ht=18307606136

Can you clarify which part numbers you used and for EWG or PWG? I want to order OEM parts, but the correct size ones for EWG lol.
