I had to deal with this kind of problems, a lot.
It could be a user error like leaving the car unlocked with some accessory running, you know, genuine power draw. Or, it could be a problem with the car's battery management. I had a lot of issues with my 2013 (battery, battery charging module, ECU) and zero problems wuth my 2017. Even in the really cold weather I have not seen once the battery drain warning. So as I said, unless you did something to drain the battery, it's likely the car's fault.

There's always some accessories running. You might think that the car is 'off', but it's never totally off. Between that and the greatly decreased ability of a battery to hold charge in very cold weather a battery maintainer should not be considered an optional device, it should be considered mandatory.

Got the same warning this morning after the car sat for 3 days in near zero temps. Drove it for about 40 minutes with no accessories on. The warning went away.

For me, it was the comfort access. One of the door handle sensors was faulty. It believed it was being touched, so was in a constant state of readiness to start the car. Therefore, after just a few days, the battery was flat. Repaired under warranty, problem solved. Car could be left for up to 4 weeks without use and would start without issue. But it happened again to a different handle less than 3 months later. Just more reasons to have the damned feature disabled permanently.

I got the exactly same message last week, I'm in Canada so the tempreture dropped to -20c last week or so. Could be just the sensor from bmw doesn't like the sudden tempreture change…but I'm taking my car back to dealer next week to figure out what is going on.

This problem is driving me nuts. Currently have a 1 amp discharge pretty much no matter what I do. No faults seem to drive me in any direction. I have let the car "sleep" for 10ish minutes with all of the fuses removed from the FEM and rear distribution box to include the red heavy gauge input lines and still sitting at one volt. I separately pulled every fuse out of the front electronic module and still had around a 1 amp draw.. I have also pulled the instrument cluster out and still same 1 amp draw. It's been awhile since i had to code so I am researching the LIN troubleshooting next but after that I don't know what to do next. Any troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.

But the car starts!!!
I've been getting this warning as well with a six year old battery and cold winter mornings. Considering that none of the people who have written replies have had a no-start problem, I'm not gonna give it much concern.
I was planning a new batt for this year anyway. And I carry a jump start pack just in case. I do really appreciate all the input that people have provided here to give me some peace of mind on the subject. I was starting to get worried! Feel better now...

I have this same problem, I have went through about 3 batteries within 3 months. if the car is not started within a week or two it will drop to about 4 volts and cannot be charged and the longer the battery stays on the shorter the window gets, for example just had one on for about 3 months and the car went two days without being started and it dropped to 4 volts. I have a go fast bits boost gauge and snow performance meth gauge on the car but they are both wired in to the fuse box and have fuse taps to turn off when the car is off and on when it is on, could one of those be what is draining the battery? |

If you're turning them off they can't drain the battery, but something is. You need to use a clamp style current meter to find it, testing every wire.
