Service-Related X Mark near Windshield?
What is this ‘X’ marked on the plastic near the windshield mean? It was likely written during maintenance at the BMW dealership.
Asking for a friend – when checking-out his 328d I noticed the white ‘X’ mark and asked why it was there. He had no idea and said it showed up after he took the car to the dealership for regular maintenance. He suspects it is because they realized he doesn’t drive his car in Sport mode enough. I guessed it was because it was a diesel. Thoughts? |

It could mean anything. Most likely an imperfection or damage was noted.

What was I thinking on a Friday afternoon? ^This is probably what I'll think about it on Monday too.
This is what my response to my friend should have been! |

I’d bet they screwed up and didn’t wash it before return. And no, I will not let Dealer wash mine. |

Ok, well, we can close down this thread now. I'm glad that my friend will now be buying me a few beers next time I'm in the Bay Area visiting - since my posting his question didn't go over so well. (Now on to creating an entirely new thread, something like...why BMW even bothers to sell a 320 in the US. ) |

Probably in the past some tech filled out completed paperwork using the wrong car’s info (license plate, vin, whatever). So the wrongly marked car is returned to the customer who says to his SA, “WTF you guys didn’t fix my squeaky trim like I asked!?!?”
So the SA goes to the shop foreman, “WTF you guys didn’t fix the squeaky trim!?!?” So the SA goes to the tech, “WTF you didn’t fix the squeaky trim?!?!?” So the tech goes, “Yes I did f’ing fix the squeaky....[pause] Ooooohhh....” So the shop foreman goes, “From now on all you mofos mark a f’ing X on the cowl after you finish working on a car!!!!” |
