Only time will tell how well DAW turbos hold up. I was planning on using a DAW turbo but ended up going with a pure 800, since I live in California I wanted a turbo that could pass visual inspection. If you plan on going with a DAW turbo and have questions I would reach out to Mike @ extreme powerhouse. He sells DAW turbos, when I looking at my options for upgrading turbos he was very helpful with answering any questions I had.

Pure 800 is a stock turbo bored out with a bigger wheel. You can't tell the difference (stock vs pure 800) till you have them out side by side. DAW turbo has a big plate on to of the turbo with the brand and logo. Granted that is something that might be over looked by a smoh tech but that's not a chance I'm willing to take.

I've seen people have a smog tech fail them because there carb stick looks like it's been removed or was worn out. You're right a smoh tech might not even notice that is says DAW turbo but I'd personally rather not risk it. Due to the part of California I live in everytime I have to smog a car I get sent to a star smog station.

I'm loving it, the car pulls harder and doesn't fall flat at the top end. Currently running mhd stage 2+ e40 map untill Mike Shoup has time to tune. Ive done a few logs to see if it runs safely on an ots map. Results are great little to no timing corrections and happy afr's.
