Horrid Vibration Under Load

Hi,

My 2016 RHD 430d vibrates horribly under load, getting worse the more load there is. It seems related to engine revs more than speed, but stopping acceleration, even at high rpm, almost completely stops it. Initially, I thought it was the parking brake clip rubbing on the driveshaft, but it's not that; the vibration is less of a screech and more of an intense shudder, especially compared to the parking brake clip noise. The vibration makes my rearview mirror almost unusable at speed and appears to originate from under the centre console. I've attached pictures of my guibo, suspecting it's worn out, though I'm not sure if that would cause this kind of issue. Additionally, the car feels very unstable at high speeds, tending to veer off to the same side consistently. This doesn't happen on deceleration or in reverse (though I didn't try that hard to recreate it). Any ideas?

That'd make the most sense. Does yours have the same symptoms? Guibo is the rubber disc you can see in the pictures I've taken right ?

Ive had vibration on acceleration and braking from failed wishbone bushes before. There is a chance the acceleration could be causing a weight transfer which is causing a bushing to wobble/move. That also may explain your poor handling.

There look to be some minor age-related marks on your drive shaft giubo, but looks like barely anything to me.

I would personally get it into a garage and on some ramps to do some MOT-like tests on the bushings.

^^That last photo looks like a very clear tear in the giubo. However, I would agree that he needs to look at all the bushings.

And no, my symptoms are some NVH at highway speeds. Might not be fully giubo related, but at 155k I am ready to change them. They are showing some cracking from my visual inspection without removing it

I have it booked in for next Monday. To me I think it's something to do with weight transfer as well rather than the giubo (although this might be another issue). Under acceleration it feels like something is rubbing and thus causing the vibration / shuddering, however it's bad enough that I don't want to drive the car, feels like it's about to fall apart. Would a bushing cause this?

Heres a video of the giubo (I personally think it's gone as well).

Its clearly damaged... I am not sure what those fuzzies are? Wire structure inside the rubber? But this is what a new one looks like if you arent tracking.

Ahh i thought it was just some underseal/detritis on the guibo - it turns out they its a fibre-filled rubber piece. Given that looks like black fibrous material, it indeed looks to have split and failed.

Learn something every day!

Yep, it's fubar. Not even round anymore and every hole is elongated. No wonder your rear view mirror was shaking.

Finally got round to changing to the Guibo. Can confirm it was definitely this causing the issue. Not the greatest pictures (should've taken some after I took it off), but look at the state of it. This was the same on all three sides.
