Hi All,

looking for a bit of help, I have an F31, with PDC, I want to add the BMW original front and rear camera.

does anyone know the part numbers i need and where i can get them from? and do they need coding?

I'm based in the UK.

any help is greatly appreciated.

There is no official "front" camera for F30 (not even for F10...). Or did you mean dash cam?

How do you suppose the surround view works without a camera in the front?

have you ever seen it?
there is no front "view" on F30 or F10... that part of image is missing.
I do have it on my car (it is fully loaded F31, one of last pre-LCI models built in July 2015)

My car has 2 cameras in the front bumper (one on each side, close to the front side parking sensors), 2 cameras on the bottom of front mirrors, and one reversing camera.
There is no camera heading forward so you do not see what is in front of the car - you have to rely on front parking sensors.
The surround view shows "black area" there and the whole image on the iDrive screen is "shifted up".



I have seen a full 360 degree surround view only in the new 7 series sedan.

Stanleyy is correct. I've only seen true 360 degree view on the 7 series and possibly an X5. Both use front facing cameras for pedestrian avoidance, I'm pretty sure. On the F3x, the Surround View uses a rear camera and two wide angle cameras under the side view mirrors. The two front cameras on either fender are for seeing around corners.

I just made surround view retrofit on my F30. You can not make whole in front bumber, just put camera someweare in the front. But it will work only when you push button with side view. I am not sure if original cable is enough long to go in front grille area.
On surround view screen, you will not see front image.

X model has surround view with front camera. But look like they have diferent control unit for it. Also I think F30 software not allow instal it.

Sorround view in F30 has one bad thing. You can see rear camera or surround only. I was saw how this system work on some Mercedes. On one screen you see both image. It allow you to see far back and what happening near you.

37b: yes, it was a surprise for me too, when I found that out... But it is not that bad, those side cameras are still very helpful during parking in our narrow European underground garrages

Retrofitting of all these cameras and related accessories is possible but it would cost a lot of money I guess...
