Be careful with your insurance on the X5. Not sure what premiums on the new model are, I suspect the same as the outgoing model until they have some stats on it.

We were looking at them when we bought the Q7. Q7 £500 a year to insure, X5 was £1200! Helped me make my decision, it's bad enough paying £40 a month tax without adding £100 a month insurance.

+1 also check about a tracker. Last X5 I had was the only car I've needed a tracker to be insured for. A bit odd but hey ho.

What sort of money would that X5 be? New model = low discounts I'd expect?

The 30d MSport is around £60k. I'm guessing that this car would be low £70s. 40i is a very similar price, around £1500 more iirc.

You are right about discounts...

Good point chaps, thanks for mentioning it, hadn't really considered it!

Insurance going down when going from 320d to 440i, and continuing to drop each year since , has made me complacent!

This year is literally the least that I have ever paid for insurance, cheaper even than TPF&T on my first banger in 1990... SUV gonna change that

BMW SUV yes, others maybe not. For us Q7 went down to £386 this year from nearly £600 last year.

My insurance went down when moving from F30 to F15, not sure why.

I passed a new X5 40i on the m25 / m40 intersection last night. Couldn’t admire the looks as it was a lousy light gold sort of colour....

I got to about £73K with ‘my’ spec, and that’s without trying too hard

As said above there seems to be hardly anything in the way of discounts available, but from past experience they will come so it makes it hard to throw down the cash now, when in six months 10% will probably be available without too much hassle!

Have you looked at the Q8 in much detail? I keep going back and forth on it, saw one in a show room and was quite impressed but not sure about the sloping back...

To me it’s an Audi that is trying too hard, much prefer the ones that are a bit less obvious - like the bigger, more useful Q7...

Yeah I think my 'not going crazy' spec came in it around 73k as well. Damn that option list. I need to bring it down with the lack of discounts/support.

I've not looked at the Q8, but thought it would be more of a X6 competitor and lacking in boot space (relatively)? Audi-wise, I think the Q7 looks under-cooked and not enough of a SUV, the Q8 a bit too brash, and the Q5 a little too small. Nothing quite suits me. Probably should at least look at a Q8 though.

Car prices are definitely going mad. Presumably fuelled by pcp making cars look more affordable. It’s not long since a lightly optioned SQ7 was in the mid to high 70s... now it’s 60s for a top spec X3, 70s for a mid spec X5...

Q8 has a better boot than an x6 I think. Nowhere near as capacious as a Q7 though...and has Audi’s latest touchscreen interface which at the moment would rule it out for me - along with the blingy light bar at the back...

We went away last week and half way through the journey mine was set to twenty where I like it. My wife had the passenger side set to low because she was hot when she got in. Looked in the mirror and the kids looked a little flush. There's were both set to hi from a previous cold 10 minute school run.

Switched to sync and all 4 were the same quickly, rather than setting them all individually which is a pain.

Also useful when I get in on my own and we've had all 4 in previously who all wanted separate temperatures. I just want to quickly set the car to one temperature.

It sounds in your case that any temp control is pointless. Let BMW set it to 20 and leave it there for the life of you having the car.

Everybody chill.

Well you 2 in the front chill.
You in the back left, warm up a bit and back right wants no air flow at all!

Yep, all at the dealer. They train you in approved X5 manoeuvres before letting you out on public roads. Also includes blocking roads outside schools and sliding off a steep road in snowy conditions on 22" low profile runflat summer tyres
Over Christmas, I was out with a mate in one of the local boozers. I was chatting to the barman and it turns out our children go to the same school. He then went on to tell me about one of the 'fit Mums' who has an X5 but can't park for shit and blocks the road often.

Turns out it was my wife he was referring to. (The fit bit confused me temporarily too).

I am insured with LV and they would not insure our X5 F15 when we bought last year, unless it was fitted with a tracker. The best quote without a tracker was c£800 and insurance with LV with a tracker was around £400. That's for 2 drivers, 12,000m/yr with 2,000 miles business use.

You can track the car with the BMW connected drive app, but I did not like the thought of debating with an insurance company in the event of a claim.

Bingo! Mine was also with LV and ultimately upon later renewals was why I moved away from them.

Shows what a crock of shit insurance is, mine is with LV and they've said nothing about a tracker. And that was insured from April last year.

Good decision, because a thief who knows his stuff can turn off the tracking in the idrive seconds after getting in your car.

What car do you have insured with LV.

When I got a new insurance quote for my F30 335d stating it had a tracker made no difference to the quote.
