brake bedding

Changed my rear brake pads with BMW OEM last week but have not found info on whether they should be bedded or not. I have been lightly braking seeing that as what some recommend. Anybody know if these pads should be bedded?

I've always understood all new pads need to be bedded. Especially when it's with new rotors.

It won't hurt at all to bed them regardless. It will hurt if you don't, and they should have been.

If they are not particularly racy pads, just drive a full tank without putting heat into the brakes. After that, roast the heck outta them as much as you want.

All cars come with un-bedded brakes from factory, 98% of car owners don't even know what brake bedding is, nobody has a problem with brake effectiveness and most people get many, many tens of thousands of miles outta their pads.

If they are normal street pads, just drive and don't sweat it. If they're high performance pads, follow the manufacturer's instructions...

Link from Billfitz didn't work but I more or less follow this:

Are you sure no one at the dealership beds the brakes before delivery to customer, and that it's not part of the break-in procedure?

Brake bedding is needed to get a layer of the pad material on the rotors, else won't get good initial bite and extend the braking distance in most scenarios.

I'm planning on doing my front brakes today with Oem. In the instruction packet that came with them it says not to do several stops to bed faster. Hmmm...I have noticed this week a slight squeal when coming to a stop which seems to be from the rear which I did last week. But, I'm not 100% that it is from the rear. I may just do a bedding anyways.
