Fucking hell, you're right...

They did order the incorrect version.

PDC on the left, PMA on the right:

EDIT: You beat my reply with your update

I absolutely love Rheingold now that I got it working on my laptop, it has helped me with figuring out the problems I was having with my Park Assist retrofit. I wish mine were a simple sensor replacement, instead every so often I get both PDC and Park Assist malfunctions, and the code I'm getting is an "Ultrasonic Sensor: Short Circuit to B+ positive" error, but it isn't kind enough to tell me which sensor has the error. Instead, my test plan in Rheingold is that I have to remove both bumpers and go sensor by sensor through all 10, removing each one and running the test to see if it detects the fault when a particular sensor is removed, then reconnecting it and moving on to the next one.

Won't you get other errors if you do that... i.e. sensor missing (not detected) or something equivalent?

That was my initial thought, but since its part of the test plan the system calculated, maybe it knows not to look for that sensor if the test is being run on it. I'll find out at some point this week. I think since my PDC was working fine before, I'll start with the two PMA sensors and test those since they are the easiest to access, if they aren't the cause then I'll have to wait until the weekend to drop the bumpers and test the others.

Just a small update...

I confronted the dealer and told me that the PDC sensors work with the PMA system and that they are indeed the correct ones.
Moreover they told me that initially the system worked, but somehow it got screwed up.

I honestly don't understand how this could be true and why the PMA would suddenly decide that it had an incorrect version of sensor.

Aren't the part numbers different though? there must be a reason for that...

Interesting; according to the BMW Mar 15 electronic catalog (using Alpine White as an example):
  • For PMA, Ultrasonic transducer 66209261625
  • For PDA, Ultrasonic-sensor 66209261587
To confirm, for my casr's color (Orion Metallic Silver):
  • For PDA, 66209261594
    For PMA, 66209261618

So there must be some difference in the sensor itself??

That's what I thought.
Also, I don't think that the car would complain about a sensor version if they were inter-changeable.

I hope you sort this one out been following it.

Just as a note since you know where the PDC unit is you know they have now changed it with an updated version (Better camera and item detection graphics) - Apparently its the PDC unit not the camera. Also they have AUTO PDC for front now so you don't have to always turn the pesky front PDC on....

Interesting... I wonder where that change came from, perhaps an update to the REM as the PDC doesn't have a separate unit in the F-series, it's all handled through the REM except when you have the Parking Assistant.

Sorry for my very late reply!

I already had my issue fixed with the help of Max from EleBest Pte Ltd (they sell the parts and install or help to install them)

I updated my initial post with the complete info.

Happy retrofits!

How this story ended?
Are the sensors interchangeable or not?

I can ditch the error with Esys, ext app>transmitter>clear all dtc's but when i put the car in reverse or use the button next the gear shift the error pops up in about 2 or 3 seconds. But i can see that the front PDS are working on the 3D image for a brief moment.

So I tried to put the 507 option back in combination with 508 but that dont work at all, error while programming REM. So this leaves me the only opion to wipe the 508 again in the meanwhile untill someone can point me out what this error is and how to solved it.

I must say after loosing the 508, the front PDC's are working but showing on the rear PDC animation, weird...even the sound is working but this is very confusing and not good to leave it this way.

MoneyFor... just wondering if you ever got this working? After installing the rearview camera & switch... adding option 3AG, i lost my rear PDC. when i remove option 3AG, now my rear PDC is no longer working. Just curious if you got your issue resolved with the coding & what the fix was.

Yea I have this same issue. Rear pdc and camera were working but when I took out 507 and added 508 it gives me that error in English. It's like the car doesn't see the sensors at all. Camera still works though.

Also when it comes to this:

Afterwards the modules need to be coded.
The simplest way is "ESYS -> Expert -> Code"
Select all ECUs and on "KIS/SVT Target" press "Detect CAF for SWE"
E-SYS will calculate the changes needed for the new VO options
Afterwards press "Code" and wait around 2 minutes

Do you select each ECU individually or do you do it from the top level?

finally had a chance to finish this project up... I'm having the same problem as the original poster, my console switch still isnt' working, would love to get that figured out.. Would be really helpful when pulling forward into parking spots. The switch lights up red when the lights are on but neither button works. I plan to add Top view & side view cameras so i went with the switch that supports that. I did exactly this... i double checked it...

The instructions state that a cable should connect pin 2 on the console to the ICM and on my car that was already connected.
What the instructions are missing is pin 1 and in the end the connections should be:
Centre Console <-> ICM
PIN1 GN/GE(Green/Yellow) wire <-> PIN28
PIN2 GE/BL(Yellow/Blue) <---------> PIN6 should already be connected
PIN3 <-------------------------------> PIN13 should already be connected

few notes worth mentioning that hopefully saves some of you some steps...

To remove the battery cover, there are (3) 10mm screws that only turns 1/4 of a turn to release, in this photo you can see i have the socket on the middle one, you will need to remove the battery cover to expose your way to through the firewall..

Now, the wonderful mistake i made that I thought i was saving so much time... When i was doing the reverse camera & rear PDC i thought I would save all this time by running the cables from the REM up to the front of the car & just rolling in a bundle until i was ready to do front PDC... boy was i wrong... The connector that connects to the PDC sensor in the front are not going to fit through the small round circle to get through the firewall... after staring at this for about an hour.. i remove all the panels, all the pins to the REM so i could pull the cable back through the car & start from the hood side... It was getting late in the day & i missed the grommet connectors twice & had the pull the cable back.. i was getting ill to say the least. You will have 3 grommets you have to go thru if you take this route... my finger in this photo is on the 1st one that you don't have to drill a hole through.. the next 2 you do... make sure you get the cable through the grommets at the appropriate time so you can avoid rework...

... this one has a hole already for the battery cover... once you run the cable thru it the battery cover is like a phillips head screw & can go right back in the same hole & not pinch the cable

Here i'm pointing out where it goes thru the firewall

Front photo of an msport with the different brackets holding the sensors. the msport bumper goes inward so the (2) 30mm brackets keep the sensor level instead of firing down to the ground...

close up shot.. thought they came out great with this automotive paint.. way better than the brush on touch up paint...

buy this stuff if your thinking about this project & need to paint your sensors.... I had (2) valencia orange sensor & (2) black sensors that i sanded down & repainted.

It's worth noting... if you want OEM look you could go a step further & after drilling the holes you can paint the inside that was just exposed with the paint i suggest above... think about it this way, BMW dips their panels & they have predrilled the holes for the PDC sensors.. so those holes are same color as your car... i have a silver car so after i drilled the center of the holes are black... yes there is a black coupling ring but you will see what i'm saying.. the bracket keeps you from shoving the sensor all the way in the hole so unless you have a black car, you will see the newly drilled holes in your bumper unless you paint the inside of them.. i choose not too, still came out looking OEM IMO.

After i got everything cabled up... i removed option 507, added 508 & VO coded the affected ECUs (which were FEM_Body, REM, HU_CIC & ICM). Wish my switch would work!!!!!! Anyone have any suggestions, i'm all ears!!!!
