Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

Just a quick heads up for anybody considering swapping to or replacing MPS4S tyres, Halfords Autocentres are currently doing the 255/35/19 size for £168.31 fully fitted. First time I've seen them under the 200 quid mark.

I can't take anymore of the S001's RFT that came standard fit with the car, even though there's still more than half the life left in them. It's ridiculous that this is still the most popular standard fit by BMW on brand new cars with 19" wheels.

Nice spot, that's £40 per tyre cheaper than blackcircles etc.! Shame they don't have the fronts.

I've never thought of trying Halfords for tyres.

That's a great price! I absolutely love mine, and they take a pounding much better than the MPSS did.

That's interesting, read a review and they did say they would be lasting longer for the same levels of grip performance. Cool.

PS4 are not the same as PS4S, silly naming IMO.

That's the price for 255/35/96Y. The BMW tyres are 255/35/92Y - and there are two types listed, one of which is annotated BMW.
What's the difference?

Nearly all the non run flats in this size are 96Y. Run flats have a lower weight bearing because they have to be able to support the car with no pressure in them.

You shouldn't really be mixing up RFT and non RFT

Mixing RFT and Non RFT on the same axle is a BIG no. However i have on many of my BMWs had RFT on the Fronts and Normal tyres on the back and it makes no difference what so ever, my car evan passed its MOT like that. I always swap my tyres over 2 at a time when a pair have worn out then swap the other pair later to spread the cost. I always wait until the RFT have worn out before changing them for non RFT and i know lots of other BMW owners do the same with no issues!

I have however heard that those of us with X Drive, that it can be rather sensitive to different tyre tread depths and may require all 4 changing at the same time?

Fine technically but from a driving dynamics perspective I wouldn't ever do it.

May I ask, do your tyres have a star marking anywhere on the sidewall which denotes they are specific to BMW vehicles? I'm running MPSS at the moment which don't have this mark and I'm wondering if that may be behind the droning sound they make. Sorry to go off topic!

Yes, it looks like they have adjusted the price sometime this morning. Shame.

Fortunately, I have already paid online at £168.31 and booked in for fitting next Saturday.

Nope, that's just the sound they make, there's a trade off for the excellent grip they have!
