Diff Oil

Hi

Has anyone in here had problems with their diff oil becoming too hot/thin resulting in damage or excessive wear on the diff?

My friend has damaged his Quaife, which is not even clutch based, running OEM BMW 75w90.

I am running Motul 300 75w90 and track my car much less - but I do start to worry a bit.

Did your friend have significant powertrain modifications or was he largely stock?

Running ~420hp on his Z4 N54 so not a massive power increase.

What's the stock horsepower rating on his Z4 N54? About 300hp? 420hp would be about a 40% increase over stock. That's pretty substantial.

The type of oil used in the rear differential isn't going to compensate for operating that much out of the stock parameters.
