Oil leak

Recently got some maintenance done and my mechanic mentioned that everything looks great, he noticed a very small oil leak from the back of the block. That's all he told me. He is very good but he isn't too knowledgeable within bmw cars. I have read a few different oil leak scenarios here but wanted to see if anyone experienced this or knows what it could " possibly" be tied too. 2012 bmw 335i. 79k miles.

Thank you

If he only saw it on the back of the motor, I suppose it could be the valve cover gasket as other frequent areas of oil leakage present more towards the front or bottom of the motor (oil filter housing gasket or oil pan gasket). I'd start by looking around the motor where the valve cover gasket mates the two pieces, usually you can see some evidence of leakage. Most guys won't even pick this leak up until it starts to drip over on the passenger side onto the DP or turbo and start "smoking". Good Luck.

Valve cove gasket especially if it's at the left rear (Your engine is actually rotated towards the passenger side of the car) because that's where oil pools.

It's an annoyingly expensive fix because of the labor required to remove all the crap sitting on top/across the top of the valve cover (Fuel rail, ignition coils, electrical connectors, grounding wires, blah blah blah).,
