Did you configure your Smart Link System correctly? Note the image below, box 3, should be "ON" if you have the larger 8.8/10.2" display.

while the OP has the wired version, this is the wireless version on a F10, the resolution looks fine to me on a 10.2" native 1280×480 resolution screen, and it will switch between Apple light and dark mode automatically.
