BMW Spotify App

I picked up my new 340i a couple weeks ago. I use Spotify for music quite a lot on my phone (Android) and I was told by the guy in BMW that on the new pro media package it supports spotify a lot better compare to what it use it.

Its worked good for a couple weeks, started up straight away, had the picture of the album showed the songs ect ect.... All of a sudden yesterday it stopped. It takes ages for me to open up spotify and then once i do manage to open it its just a blank screen!

Anyone else have or had this problem before and know how to solve the issue?

Any help would be appreciated!

It's a pain in the ass.
Switch on the connected drive app on your phone first (Why oh why should you have to I don't know). Allow it to connect.
enter password etc.
Bingo, after a minute or two, Spotify should be working again..
When I first got the car it did not need this step...

Spotify and Bluetooth issues https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1490386

I have up and just went to iTunes in the end. It's been faultless. I have CarPlay so that might have also been a contributing factor.

I sometimes find it is better to close all the apps on your phone then reconnect.
Spotify usually connects straight away but it can take a few minutes at times.
You have to remember to unlock the Spotify app on your phone so that you can control it via the idrive.

This is my biggest issue with the car, the entertainment or infotainment system is pretty useless. Lacks alot of features that are standard on other cars.

Ford Sync is miles ahead.

It’s a pain on iPhone too, sometimes I have to restart the spotify app on my phone, sometimes I have to switch the car to radio and then back to media.

with android, it's pretty rubbish IMO. the most successful I've been with is to start the car open the bmw connected app, and leave that in the fore ground.

Yeah on my previous car 320i it wasn't no where near as good as the 340i but then just stopped. Was only talking to my sister the other day saying how much Spotify works so much better in the 340i haha.

I can still use Spotify if just select to listen to it through Bluetooth. However it was just having the album picture up with the song that gave it a better feel rather than just looking at the Bluetooth bloody symbol haha

I've tried deleting Spotify from my phone, and deleting my phone Bluetooth from the car but still no luck. I guess I'll leave it a couple days and maybe it will magically work again.

I've never used Deezer, will have to look into that.

You'd think they would have this type of shit on point with the amount of money people spend on stuff.

Maybe i am lucky - but never had an issue on my car with IOS,

Just select the source from steering wheel control, and spotify fires up.

If i want to pick a playlist I have to faff about with the media and source on the idrive etc..

But never needed to connect the bmw app, or plug my phone in for spotify to connect.

Spotify and BMW is complete junk. Mine constantly crashes out, hangs, doesn't play anything. Total rubbish.

If you're having this problem and your an Android user, the problem is on Spotify's end. They updated the app in November and broke BMW integration, Roll back to 8.4.78.530 (November 7) or earlier and Spotify integration will work properly.

Thanks JohnnyCanuck; bloody marvelous info. After messing around with this on my 340i for the past 2 weeks I finally found your post. Located the .530 version of the app and put it on my phone (Google Pixel) . Logged into my Connected Drive app, The Spotify Icon appeared on I drive screen straight away, and within a second or 2, all my playlists appeared with album covers etc.
It was driving me crazy as my mobile phone provider gives away 10GB of free spotify usage per month for free...and I couldnt use it.

Just got to remember to turn the auto update feature off on the Spotify app.

What site did you use to download an older version? I've been working all over Christmas and haven't had a chance to sort my issue out.

I can't remember the exact site but search for Spotify and that version number and there are plenty of apk available. Just need to stop it from auto updating to keep it at that version.

I was really annoyed Spotify integration didn't work but I did this last night and it's now working fine. Got playlists and album artwork.

In fairness to BMW this is a Spotify issue rather than their own making.

Did you delete the app before downloading the old version?

I've tried quite a few sites to download the version but for some reason it always comes up as "App Not installed" Spotify sucks and I'm losing the will to live!

I've also just got this working, thanks to JohnnyCanuck!

Reiss.. you do need to uninstall your current version before installing the .530 version. You can then stop the automatic update via the Google Play app, hope this helps.
