US side markers (indicators) in UK... yay or nay?

What do you guys and gals think about coding US side markers on UK cars? I mean the indicators in the headlight units, not those orange arch-lights in the bumper.

THIS:

NOT THIS:

Particularly on F30/31?

Does it look cool, add a little something different, or a big no.

Thoughts...

It's a no from me because:

1. Don't like the yellow lights
2. I don't think they are road legal in the U.K.

As in, you drive around with your indicators permanently on?

I don't know that they're not road legal.

The new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have orange LEDs permanently on in the headlight unit I think, joined up with the white DRLs. Although they are pretty small orange ones.

As far as I'm aware theres no legislation regarding that, as long as the indicators are visible and flash amber 60-120 times per second (with a significantly faster flash rate if a bulb has failed)

Yeah, although at maybe 20-30% brightness, with the actual indicator flashing at 100% brightness.

I think it will just look like you've got a wiring/electronics problem. Like those people whose brake lights never go off, or the many vans I see whose reverse lights come on when they brake.

Well so far it's unanimous, I'm surprised, I thought there might be a few quite like it.

I wasn't looking for any particular answer. I wasn't sure what I thought of them, so was curious what others thought

You'll find a lot of the US folk actually delete these as they don't like them.

No, seen a couple of cars (mainly bmw) like this. Didn't like it.

I think the biggest issue will be you may get lots of people pulling out of junction thinking your turning.

Definitely a NO from me, as said in previous, really don't know where you would stand in a RTA a good dash cam would so both indicators on not sure if this could be classed as a fault with the car, didn't know this was a new "thing"saw this on a 1 series the other day with the on board Yoof and thought he really needs to get that sorted thought it was a wiring fault

It’s a no from me as well.

Someone local to me has them as they were behind me the other week and remember thinking how chavvy it made the car look...

But each to their own I guess

Can't really see the point. There was a newish VW behind me with them on yesterday and whilst it looked different I didn't think it looked any better.

Ouch..
To be honest, I thought some might have liked the idea but it appears not.

I wasn't looking for validation, just curious what forum members thought.
I must admit I'm surprised it's completely one-sided though, I thought there might be a few who were for it, even if a tiny minority.

I'll chime in and say I quite like them although I haven't coded ours to do so. It's definitely legal / permitted, although I believe they come on at something like half the power of the normal indicators (possibly less). The E60 5 series also used to have an orange bar at the top of the headlights.

As a fan of American stuff, when I was younger I did a similar mod on a VW Jetta & Vento as well as a Civic. Although back then it wasn't legal. However, I do remember when trying to get it working, a lot of folk on US forums thought it was mad as they typically try to get rid of them!

So, I like it but it's not as far as 'they look cool as f.....'
