I don't think it is very model specific. Over the years, the general consensus has been that cars with 'Shadow Line Trim' are more prone...

Problem lies in Shadow Black trim we have rubbing on a door seal. As soon as you put something in between its quiet as should be. Good luck |

I had the same problem. Got some Gummi Plfege Stift by nextzett, it conditions rubber seals. I applied this to the seal around the top of the door frames and voila!! Fixed the problem completely!

I am looking for a more permanent solution and the Tape (Teflon or otherwise) seems to be the way to go. This has been confirmed in other forums as well. Hopefully, the original poster will put up the photos again.

I only noticed this on 2016 3 series, several people at my office have them and they all do it. Does anyone know if this was fixed on the 2017's?

I was thinking the same thing (cant see pics). Been experiencing this more and more lately and would like to see exactly where to place the tape within each door frame goes. Also, where are people ordering the tape? Is a $250 roll really necessary? Hoping the value has dropped since this thread was created.

On my f30 the dealer replaced all the window guides which for me solved the annoying squeaks.

For anyone looking for pictures on how to apply the tape, see this thread as well....it links to another guide with pictures too. I just ordered some tape off Amazon and will be doing this over the weekend:

I had a similar challenge myself and it went away after I 3m vinyled my trim to satin black.
Mine use to be chrome.

By gently lifting on the door handle and the underside of the mirror, I could get my doors to squeak, and it seems to be coming from the top seal just as the other thread shows where to mount the tape.
Too me it sounds like when you move around on an old leather sofa or chair. And the top rubber seal itself seems to be that felt backed rubber instead of a plain rubber seal. So maybe BMW was trying to fix the issue with the different type seal. But it is still unacceptable. I think I'll try some pure silicon spray I have before I go to the dealer for the tape job.

I taped the shadowline trim last night using this tape (TapeCase 423-5 UHMW Tape 3/4" x 5yds). I bought two rolls and used a little bit of the second one and it worked perfect....for now anyway, let's see how long it lasts.
Silence is wonderful thing though |

Unless your car is out of warranty there is no reason you should be trying to solve this yourself. Gummi Pfledg, while good on rubber seals will not solve your problem. This is a well known issue and their is a TSB (Technical service bulletin) on the issue and the dealer will do it right. My car had this issue and I brought it in after the 2nd week I had it and they installed the teflon tape, which is black and not really visible unless you're looking and its dead silent, and has been for the past 18 months.
