New car, new towbar
Hi,
I am going to need a towbar for next summer (2020) and I will be swapping into a new G21 in the first half of 2020 too. I am wondering if anyone has experience of whether I would be better buying the car with a towbar factory fitted (£850 and electric from memory) or having a simpler towbar system fitted aftermarket at the dealership or else where? One note is I see bmw say on their website that the factory fitted towbar includes stability control as standard, just wondering if anyone know what and if this makes a difference? many thanks |

Get the factory fit.
I went through this with my 440. I wouldn't be happy with anything other than a Westfalia bar. Has to be detachable. Bar could be had for around £450. Electric box another £150. Fitting free (DIY) But the 440 factory bar was £750 so not a huge difference. If you tow a caravan, , the fridge and therefore charging wiring is not there - on mine at least. |

I had the factory one retrofitted at considerable cost. Definitely get it on the original order if possible, you also get a bigger cooling fan that way. I choose not to change it when I retrofitted the tow bar, it would be extra cost, and I only plan to use it for a bike rack
