![]() ![]() BMW F30 3-series (335i) FEP Video! Shows Fixed Pistons + Possible Lightweight Brakes We bring you the most revealing F30 3-series FEP (final evaluation phase) test car video yet -- 2 minutes of spy footage. See also our recent FEP F30 spy photos and coverage. The video reveals the following things:
The F30 3-series sedan is expected to be officially announced in November in London, in connection with the upcoming 2012 Olympics, and makes its world debut at the 2012 Geneva motor show in March of 2012. Sales should begin shortly after in Europe and in the US by the Spring. As per the usual 3-series sedan/coupe timeline, the F32 coupe should debut a year later sometime in 2013. An Active Hybrid F30 3-series as a Concept will also be shown at Geneva and there is also a 3-series GT (Gran Turismo) which has already been spied in testing. Expect engine options to include a full range of turbo engines. The 28i will likely be powered by the same N20 turbo 4-cylinder powering the X1 xDrive28i and the upcoming Z4 sDrive28i, and the F30 335i/340i will again be powered by a turbo 6-cylinder engine. Hmmm, interesting. I sure hope this car doesn't disappoint in the looks department.

It looks that it will be easy to replace 325/328 exhaust with 335 exhaust or a dual/quad exhaust because of the new muffler design. All the previous 3 series except 335/M3 had an storage area in the right side of the muffler under the rear compartment area which is not like the F30 as we can see in the spy photos. Also the rear diffuser is a separate part from the bumper which means there's will be no need to change the whole bumper when fitting dual side exhaust.
Also rear view camera can be seen in the following picture |

As for the body, it looks like an e90 with new tail lights and headlights with updated bumpers. The trunk is almost identical and they just ripped the hood off the new 5er and slapped it on the f30. Still too early to actually make a call on how it will look though.

I'm hoping for a power bump a la 335hp... slightly higher boost, or even better... slightly larger displacement?
The bigger question is the displacement of the next gen M3 engine. |

It might not actually exist, or at least not right away. There will be either a 335i with the same engine seen in the e90 335i now, or a 340i with the higher output engine used in the new 640i. It could very well be that the switch (if it happens) will occur with the second year of the F30 (first year of the F32 as well) just as the 328i->330i and 330i->335i changes happened in the second year of the e46 and e90 respectively.

love the proportions of the new 3. that side shot proves a really slick body for sure.
I think it should go back to being the best looking car in the class... (a4 facelift should be its only competition on looks)
