Hey all,
This has been covered in various threads, but I recently coded this and can report that Dheeth-F30 and I used the same track and did some side-by-side comparisons of the Logic7 and B&O Expanded DSPs...the clear winner, to both of our sets of ears, was the B&O. The music was enveloping. Highs and mids created a floating soundstage in the upper part of the cabin with (obviously) omni-directional lows providing a beefy foundation. I thought I might've been hearing things, but Aman agreed that there was more instrumental separation and that the surround effect was much more saturated. Everyone's ears and preferences are 100% their own and music is incredibly subjective, but this takes just moments to code and is completely reversible. So experiment and see if this improves your satisfaction with the HK system. If not, change it back and keep rollin'. The mod is very simple: HU_NBT(or CIC) > Expert Mode > 3000 HMI > HIGH_END_AUDIO_MENUE Change the value from whatever it is to volle_insz and code. Cycle the vehicle on/off after the coding is complete and you'll notice that the Logic7 option and checkbox have vanished and that Bang & Olufson now sits at the top of the Tone menu. If you select this option, you'll have your choice of two DSPs: Studio and Expanded. Studio is definitely tighter and more focused and much more localized to the physical locations of each speaker. Expanded sounds as though there are no speakers, just one homogenzied pool of sound throughout the cabin. Hoping to hear from folks on their experiences and whether or not they kept it or reverted back to L7. ![]()

I finally tried this last night, I had been meaning to for a while. While I initially was more impressed with the effects, I found that it was too bright for me. This seems to be a recurring issue for me with this speaker setup (bavsound stage 1). It's got a huge peak around 2-3k and I have to turn that slider down quite a bit for it to sound "normal" to me. It's definitely "punchier" than L7 though, as far as bass goes.
Anyway, I'm probably going to revert to L7.

I tried this on my F32 this morning, liking the expanded so far.
Thanks OP! I notice there is a similar menu (HIGH_END_AUDIO_MENUE_F&W i think) with the same drop down menu. Would anyone happen to know what that is?? |

Excellent observation! Thanks for sharing. Sounds like dependent on year, you may see B&O or Bowers and Wilkins. Very cool. Thanks for the contribution.

Silly question!!
If you don't have L7, can this be done? I'm asking because my F87 has H&K but not L7. Thanks!!

N26Ghost so when you code this as suggested you are effectively turning HK system which I have now to now sound exactly like a B&O system which is the same as if you purchased the $3000 upgrade? If not, how similar is the sound to B&O considering I have HK speakers not B&O. It sounds like your saying this coding will make the sound night and day better than HK even under best EQ settings and Logic 7 combined? Am I stating your findings correctly?
Is there any chance you have a sample song of the new sound with the coding? Last edited by tympj; 03-18-2019 at 06:00 PM.. |

I encouraged members to explore the mod as Dheeth-F30 and I critically compared Logic7 to B&O Expanded and both preferred the B&O DSP over the L7. No coding can replace the higher quality of the B&O drivers, amplifier (16 channels vs 10 for HK, I believe) and wattage (1200 vs 600, iirc). So I'd dispute anyone claiming that. Sound is wholly subjective. Just as our ears and brains are wired uniquely, so too are our perceptions of what sounds good. Only you can determine what you like best. I am just sharing that there are more options to consider and what works best for me. ![]()

I'm sitting in the car switching between HK L7 and B&O sound setups rn lol.
Really trying to figure out which one I like better... Must have switched back and forth like 5 times. Betwen studio and expanded, I think I definitely prefer expanded. But between B&O expanded and HK L7, I'm having trouble deciding. EDIT: I think I'm just going to go with B&O expanded. I think at higher freq sounds, it seems to be a bit more clear.

So my car is a 2014 F30 with Pro Nav and H&K. Tried the coding today and have to say impressive the expanded setting really increases the depth of the sound. Center speaker is still active. Base seems deeper as well. This is all with OEM speaker, initial reaction very impressed

The B&O DSP definitely sounds like it has a "V" shape going on. More bass, more highs, low mids.

Thanks for sharing. I was able to active the B&W menu. The only thing I don't like is that "Bowers and Wilkins" on the bar every time you raise or lower the volume.
Beside that, I thing that Concert sounds good. |

Hey!
Will this work for those who have the hi-fi system? My 2016 328i has the center speaker and tweeters in the door pillars, from the factory, but it's not the HK. I'd LOVE to enhance the sound a bit or have the equalizer available -- all I get is the bass and treble settings. = ( |

Thanks for this!
Did thecoding this afternoon and quite a difference in sound. Personally prefer the concert setting, but will continue to try it with different songs/genre.
