That website doesn't work /\

How does that repair kit compare to the Amazon/Ebay chinese jobs? Assume it's all the same stuff since BMW don't sell the PCV parts separately on diesels?

Great to hear you've had it remapped for that long with no issues

I'm not going there until the warranty has expired

It won't have BMW branding on it, but it's exactly the same unit.

You would spend a lot more than that having a dealer diagnose the issue. Less at an indie but if they're going go to the trouble of stripping parts off for inspection, you may as well save on labour and bung a new snail on whilst its apart.

Whilst they have it, they can remove the injectors, ultra sonically clean them and perform a compression check. You will know for sure then whether the car is worth persevering with, or bolt it back up and trade it in.
Hi guys, I also have (an admittedly high-mileage) F30 330d with oil consumption issues, currently sitting around 188,000miles. All original engine internals and turbo, 1 litre per 2000-2500miles. I am happy to do a compression test (as well as checking the turbo), but obviously don't want the pain of taking out the glow plugs, which will snap at this mileage. I was wondering whether the standard 'injector fit' diesel compression tools work, or whehter a special one (to fit with the N57 injector clamping setup) is required. If so - could anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

You can get 'dummy injectors' for pretty much all CR diesel engines to fit onto standard testers, which aren't too expensive.

If you can get a borescope small enough to fit through an injector hole, it would be a good time to check for cylinder scoring.

Just had a different Indy specialist do an inspection for me and they believe the PCV has failed. Quoted £900 for a rocker cover replacement.

He said there’s also a tiny bit of play in the turbo but that’s likely unrelated to the oil consumption.

Decided to go down the aftermarket route and have a go replacing just PCV and see how I get on.

Wish me luck!

The pcv is next to impossible to take off without breaking the clips on the cap. You get a replacement cap in the kit for this reason.

Which one did you use? The Ridex one? I might do mine as well for preventative maintenance.

Mrbensam, it's worth replacing the plastic breather hose whilst you're there (also on that link above) as they are notorious for snapping in half if you so much as fart in it's direction.

Yeah mate I went for the ridex one because it had the best reviews. I probably should have ordered the hose as well but I’ll do that another time I think!

Just done the PCV repair and as expected every single tab snapped on the old cap when removing it.

Not convinced this will be my problem though. There’s no tears or obvious damage to the rubber diaphragm.

Indy said they done a smoke test and something else to confirm it was a failed PCV.

I guess I will just have to monitor oil consumption for now and potentially get them to re test it with the new PCV.

Is there anything else related to the PCV inside the rocker cover that may have failed? Don’t want to just start throwing parts at it.

The old diaphragm looks gunked up and you might find it feels stiffer than the new one.
