I am completely new to this forum so excuse me if I am putting this in the wrong place.

After lots of hard work I just bought my first car (2014 white bmw 328i x-drive) and am eager to improve it from the default.

Right now the car is equipped with stock rims and tires and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what has worked for them in terms of aesthetics and performance. I do live in a snowy state and the roads will be partially snowy during the winter months that are approaching so I am looking for tires that are good with partially icey/snowy roads while maintaining performance.

The car is white with tinted windows, a black interior, and black kidney grilles if that helps paint a picture.

First, I'd suggest a dedicated set of winter wheels and tires. That way you can run high quality performance tires for other 9-10 months

Michelin, Nokian and General make ALL-WEATHER tires that you can run year round. Still doesn't beat a dedicated set of snow tires though.

Find a wheel you like and buy that with some new tires for the non-snow months and put some snow tires on the wheels you have now.

I did the complete opposite. I ended up selling my 400m wheels when I got my car because I hated runflats. I bought 19" summer tires and 17" winter tires for my F33.

Switchover only takes me about 30 minutes so it's not bad twice a year.
Well I guess four times a year because I do the same on my daughter's car.

We both have all wheel drive, but I still run a smaller dedicated winter setup.

What wheels/size are on the car now?

Like already mentioned, I'd look at a set of winter wheels/tires first. Depending on what's on the car now, you could turn those into your winter wheel set and get something better for the warm months and mount a nice set of summer tires on them. I did this with a previous car I owned.

Interesting read on the newish ALL WEATHER category. Of note is the performance trade-off in 3 season driving, whether or not that appeals to you. None of these claim to be "performance" tires I dont believe

I find the category interesting since I live just outside the snow-belt. It's too cold and snowy for all seasons, but often too dry for traditional winter tires and maybe too warm for those random days that hit almost 70F.

I currently use "performance winter" tires which are better suited to my weather, but I can't help but wonder if these all weather's might work better in my climate.

Meaning replacing your winter tires for the All Weather only for winter use? last longer I would think

Longevity wise, I'd agree and they would probably work just as well in the dry/very cold conditions. It's not like I'm doing back-road blasts or any other driving which would test the limits of the car that time of year.

My only concern would be how they perform when I really need them, i.e. when there ice/snow/slush all over the roads.

Not to mention since only a handful of brands are making the ALL WEATHER tires, they're not cheap vs WINTERS. May turn out to be a wash in your case
