Adaptive Headlights - What do we have?

I have 2014 BMW 335i with premium package and drive asst package. How do I know if I have adaptive headlight or not. My auto insurance company offers discount on Adaptive headlight so trying to find what do we have in F30.

Was the adaptive headlight an upgrade in 2014 or it was standard. If upgrade what package it was included under.

Thanks

That’s true, but for the 335i, lighting package content was standard.

I have the Xenon lights which are standard on 335i. Are those adaptive?

Can’t you just sit someplace with your lights on against a wall and turn your steering wheel and see if they move

I know when I start the car they do self leveling where they go down first and then up. I can try turning the wheels to see if the direction changes too.

If you're driving slowly in the dark and you turn, you should be able to see your headlights move to the side.

You can also use BMW VIN decoder:
https://www.bmwvin.com/

to check your options.

You should see this option:
S524A Adaptive Headlights

EDIT: Recorrected. All BMW 335i (at least in the U.S.) have adaptive HID standard).

Huh?

That is absolutely NOT true

Not only did some 335i have Halogen Headlights, others had Non-Adaptive HID Headlights.

EDIT Correction: IK6SPEED was incorrect. All American 335i came with the lighting package standard so had HID and adaptive headlights. May be different if you're outside of the U.S.

Ah yeah you're right. I actually thought all 335i came with HID standard but evidently even that's wrong? Was it only some of the early models that came with Halogens standard? Adaptive requires the lighting package which I always forget my car came with.

I get extra confused because I've been shopping for a 2018 and those all seem to have those terrible LED headlights as if they're an upgrade.

Here's the brochure for the '14s (OP's MY). Says adaptive HIDs are standard on 335 (Exterior Features, Pg 3; and Lighting Pkg, Pg 8).

I was able to check this in front of the garage door when parked. Turn the wheel right and they will move to the right, turn the wheel left and they wont go anywhere. It's designed that way in the US.

Just because it's on the parts diagram doesn't mean that it was a factory configuration.

In the US, adaptive HID was the factory standard configuration for all 335i sedans. The ETK won't tell you this, but the ordering guides will. Special orders for and approved retrofits to other configurations may have been possible, but since they would have been "downgrades" from the standard 335i, they'd be quite rare.

Non-adaptive HID was not an offering on any US F30. The reason those parts show up in the "US" ETK is that it was a possibility for Canadian cars. Canada and the US share the same region in the parts catalog (and for many other purposes), confusingly named "USA".

They do?! That's so odd. I was told that they didn't because they didn't want you blinding traffic while stopped to turn left. I'm going to pay closer attention to mine when I'm driving at night next.

I think the degrees they swivel left is smaller than right.

Not everyone lives in USA on this forum.

The OP said ALL 335i had Adaptive HID.

Your addition to this thread was not helpful at all, then. We're all in the U.S. If you want to add a comment for our international members, that's fine, but you should qualify your comment with that fact. I think at this point it's pretty obvious you just looked up the parts list and assumed something that was incorrect.
