MY17 440i Gran Coupe: Nav intermittently enters Interactive Mode

On several occasions, I noticed that the navigation unit in my '17 440i Gran Coupe enters Interactive Map mode without any input. Very unusual.

I purchased a separate BMW Navigation and Infotainment: Owner's Manual but it does not have any particularly helpful details about Interactive Mode.

Will make a note to discuss it with SA during the next oil change.

SO.. is it going into the mode where you have a large crosshair on your map, is that what you mean about 'Interactive Mode'?

If so, I had the same problem for a week with my new car, in Germany (European Delivery). Turns out, even the lightest touch on the IDrive controller will turn on the 'current position' mode!
Went to a BMW Dealership in Stuttgart and the tech (young kid) couldn't figure out if it can be turned off. Probably couldn't navigate through the menus easy enough since everything was in English!

Low and behold, there is a sub menu that allows you to turn off the touchpad in Map mode! Once I unchecked that, never had another problem!
And you can still get the crosshair up while driving (to save a position) by double tapping the touchpad.

Hope this helps, if you have a similar problem~

I suspected it was a user error on my part magnified by some obscure setting. Thanks for the suggestion!

After reviewing the owner's manual, these are the steps to disable this feature:

- My vehicle / iDrive Settings / Touchpad
- Uncheck 'Map'

My Pleasure!

Still a learning curve with the new IDrive 5.0.. let alone Apple CarPlay!
Can't wait till I get my car back so I can continue to learn~

After reviewing multiple YouTube videos explaining Apple CarPlay, I did not find it particularly compelling and did not specify it when placing the order. Do you find it useful?

Haven't found it useful yet.. as I haven't gotten to try it out! Only works when you are able to 'Connect' Drive. Didn't get to use it in Germany, guess I'll give you a run down in 3 weeks, after I get her back~

Since the settings were updated, no more sudden Interactive Mode. Again - thanks for the suggestion!
