Unzip to root directory of USB and plug into car.

I downloaded the file. Extracted it to the root of a fat32 usb drive. It won’t update via idrive. Says no device with software connected.

You have EVO (“Road Map NORTH AMERICA EVO 2017-1”), not NEXT. EVO’s a different set of map data for newer hardware.

GraceNotes supports both Next and Evo.
Navigation is specific for hardware - NBT (Next) vs NBT2 (Evo).
