Intercooler Stencil Spray Paint
Hi there,
I recently decided to buy a larger intercooler and got an ///M stencil to spray onto. I didn’t capture the picture of the process but have caught it on video (I’ll link at the end of the write up). At first I measured either side to stick the vinyl stencil onto the face, and stuck it on. I’ve put black bag at either side and the top and taped it down to mask off the area only leaving the stencil section exposed for painting. I spoke to a body shop sprayer and he helped me out with his guidance and on what to get. I went out to my local auto shop (Halfords U.K) and got etch primer (for adhesion of metal/aluminium), grey primer, colour (decided to go purple) and clear coat. Sprayed on the first coat of etch primer, feathering on. Waited until it was touch dry, this was about 10 minutes before layering on another coat. Being patient inbetween coats is very important either wise you’ll end up with solvent pops and it’ll look a right mess. Another couple of more coats with the etch primer and then onto the primer. Same again and repeat the process. Once the final coat of clear coat has been sprayed on, I took off the bag and the stencil while it was still wet. |

Cool share. Can't wait to see how it looks when installed on the car.
Was the intercooler painted or anodized black from manufacturer?
