EPA MPG Numbers for 340?
Anyone see EPA mileage estimates for the 340/B58 yet? I've looked around and have not seen any so far. Presume they will be a mile or two better than the 335/N55, but since U.S. spec cars are being delivered I would have thought we would have seen them by now. Not a big deal, just curious.

"The new BMW 3-Series also sees the world debut of the BMW 340i Sedan/BMW 340i Touring (combined fuel consumption: 7.7-6.5/7.0-6.8 l/100 km [36.7-43.5/40.4-41.5 mpg imp]; combined CO2 emissions: 179- 152/164-158 g/km), which replace the previous 335i. The BMW 340i is the first model in the entire BMW line-up to be powered by the all-new sixcylinder engine from the new modular BMW EfficientDynamics engine family. The lightweight and rigid all-aluminium unit with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology provides a perfect blend of superb performance and outstanding efficiency. The new three-litre six-cylinder in-line BMW 340i tops the 3-Series petrol line-up and develops maximum power of 240 kW/326 hp between 5,500 and 6,500 rpm, a 15 kW/20 hp improvement over the previous model. Peak torque is an impressive 450 Nm (332 ft-lb), which is available from 1,380 rpm. The new BMW 340i Sedan with eight-speed Steptronic transmission goes from 0 - 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.1 seconds, with a governed top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). And although it offers significantly more power and superior torque (up by 50 Nm/37 lb-ft) compared with the predecessor model, CO2 emissions for the new BMW 340i Sedan with standard tyres are more than 10 per cent down on the previous BMW 335i, Sedan at 152 g/km." -NetCarShow I believe they usually have pretty accurate information, if you're just looking for numbers on the engine. Not sure when or if the EPA estimates have come out. But it's likely to be on someone's window sticker for those who just taken delivery of their new 340i.

If those numbers are the Euro ratings, they are always super optimistic. They claim the M3 does 9L/100km (combined cycle). Not even the 335 is rated that low in Canada/USA.

All the B-series engines use ~10% less fuel than the comparable N-series engine. This should hold true regardless of Euro vs. EPA.
Expect 340i to come in at 23/27/35, roughly. Which is phenomenal; show me another mass-produced 300+ HP gasoline (non-hybrid) car that even comes close. I think the closest would be the S3/Golf R at 31 MPG highway, but they aren't quite 300 HP. Corvette or IS350 maybe? Last edited by the_phew; 08-12-2015 at 02:18 PM.. |
