No to both of those. I and many others have coded EBT and still get OTA updates.

The updates only happen 3 or 4 times a year and there doesn't seem to be any hard and fast rules as to when the system updates.

Is there any need to reverse EBT coding before a routine service?

No, as long as you haven't changed the FA order list there should be no issues.

The only thing that may happen is your coding gets overwritten if they update the cars software.

I am fairly sure I changed 6NH to 6NS, so that is a change to the FA list that needs to be reversed? Would that be the only part that needs to be reversed, or would I need to reverse HU_NBT too?

Thanks

Your correct, you would have changed 6NH to 6NS to enable the EBT. However, Esys saves a local copy of the new FA and uses that to VO code the HU_NBT.

Only if you used this screen in VCM would you have written the altered FA back to the car (greyed out):

The way to find out if you have change and saved the FA back to the car is connect Esys and Read the FA and check through the code list.

I don't think I wrote it back to the car, but I will check. Thanks for your help.

You can put your VIN into various websites and that will give you a list of your factory order options and codes. You can then double check this against the FA from the car.

I want to get MPPK for my 330d.
I have had a genuine reversing camera retro fitted. Do I need to get this coding reversed (pardon the pun!) before the car goes to BMW? Or can BMW change any coding back to original spec themselves?

The car is still under warranty, so I presume If I have to reverse the coding it would be better done before hand?

Thanks

Steve

It depends on how the camera has been coded after fitting. If it was a genuine BMW retrofit by a BMW dealer, there will be no issues. I'm guessing that's probably not the case.

If the guy who coded the camera in just altered the FA (Vehicle order list) within Esys and just coded the required modules, there should be no need to worry. Trouble is, BMW may recode your car when they install the MPPK and you may, temporarily, lose the rear camera until it can be coded back in.

If the guy who coded the car re-wrote the FA back to the car, BMW sometimes kicks up a fuss as the car coding won't match what they have on record. It's not really an issue but they may make a mountain out of a molehill. They can write the original FA back to the car and then code the necessary bits of the MPPK but there's a good chance your camera may stop working. Again, only until you get it re-coded back.

It's all solvable quite easily. (although the dealer may make it seem otherwise)

Thanks!

So worst case scenario BMW will charge me to recode original FA, and I will loose the coding for camera?

They are going to have to code the car for the MPPK anyway. With a bit of luck and bit of shoulder shrugging on your part ("That was how I got the car") they will probably just do it. It's no skin off their nose. It's not a difficult operation, about 2 min with Esys if you know the original FA. Trouble is they will probably be doing more that just coding, they tend to flash the entire car. Last time my car was in it took all night to programme the car.

Thanks Stu

I was more worried if I ordered the kit (It's quite expensive!), then they couldn't flash the car due to the FA not matching, but they will be able to do it whatever it seems, so I have gone ahead and ordered.
I bought the car from BMW UK, so I can't really say It wasn't me that had the camera fitted. Although would they know that? Probably just tell them It is was fitted by an indie, and didn't think it would matter, as all genuine parts were used!

Yes, read it can take a long time, dependant on how busy BMW's server is.

Thanks for your replies
