Remote tailgate stuffed again (UPDATE)

The tailgate remote is stuffed again, it wont open remotely then it decides to work for a couple of time then its a no go again.
The dealers checked it out and fixed the problem or so they thought. They said it needed a software update and all would be well.

Well it isn't and once again I have to open the tailgate manually which takes a lot of effort. The lock opens and that's it sometimes it works to open and lift but then it wont come down, going back into the dealers Thursday for another attempt at repairing. Is there a known fault with the tailgate or have I just got a lemon. The car is a 4 Series Grand Coupe.

I'm on my second 4gc, first was a 2015 now I have a 2018 and have had no issues with the tailgate.

Interested to know what they say.

Funny really when I bought the car it had problems with the tailgate and when they said they had done a software install I was a little bit sceptical as the car was making all sorts of noises when the tailgate was operated I said that software wouldn't fix a hardware problem but I had to give them the benefit of the doubt as they stated there was a recall on them for that very problem we will see what the next fix is as the car is under warranty there will be no cost its just a pain as the dealer is 90 mile away but they are picking the car up and giving me a loaner until the problem is rectified so they are going out their way to sort it.

Mine sticks sometimes, especially if its been a while since it was last opened - almost like the power cant near the tackiness of the seal.

One opened though it will then go up and down no problem all day... go figure!

Some silicone lubricant may stop this from happening.

Cue, the KY comments...

Mine has done it twice now since December. Its weird though as it only does it after being parked up. It always works again once I have started the car.

Most recently was after taking my daughter to school, when I got back to the car after about 5 mins, it didnt work, but did when I started the car.

That's how mine started then it was ok for a week then it just give up altogether.
Looking on the bright side it saves my wife going to the gym as her arms are bulging now as its not easy opening and closing the tailgate

Well my car went into the dealers today to check the problem and get it rectified hopefully this time BUT,
I had a call from the dealers to say that both tailgate struts were being renewed and repairs were about complete.

Now comes the strange part the dealer said that my car which is a 4Series 420D GC was in fact on the recall list for the EGR Valve/Cooler they were in turn contacting BMW to get instructions how to proceed and it would be Monday at the soonest I could expect the car to be returned, This seems strange to me as the EGR/Cooler recall as I thought only affected the 6 pot engine hence 430d can anyone shed and info on this could it be a ploy by the dealer to keep the car longer to complete the repairs to the tailgate or are the 2litre 420D included in the recall
