Getting loads of white smoke at startup. Getting ready to replace the oil pipe this week but I'm sure it's new turbo time. Should I get a used OEM unit? A remanufactured OEM unit or a bigger unit with matching tune? I really want an OEM driving experience but wouldn't mind the extra kick. I'm not doing any drivetrain modifications and really don't want to upgrade engine hardware either. What would YOU do?

How many miles are on your car? If you have the coin, going with an upgraded turbo would be more fun

Well to start, the oil feed line could be the issue, and you could fix that and be fine, no need for a new turbo.

If that's not the case however, what I would do is get a bigger unit from MHI because I already have most/all of the additional hardware I would need, but it sounds like stock is more your style. If you get a bigger turbo it has to be accompanied by additional hardware, which doesn't sound like something you want to do. If I were you, I would replace with a new stock unit. If you wouldn't mind an extra kick, maybe add a tune after the new turbo is in, but it doesn't sound like the upgraded turbo route is right for you.

Believe me I'm not happy about it. I've had it a little over a year and it's going to be on the chopping block soon.

I would try a good faith repair through the dealer. What could it hurt to try?

Forgot to update. There was oil everywhere when I took the intake, intercooler, turbo/mani and downpipe apart. Honestly I thought something was terribly wrong. I cleaned it all up, replaced the oil pipe and put it back together. The next couple days were spent putting miles on the car, checking oil level and observing cold start excess smoke. Other than the car smelling like a 2 stroke for a couple days, Nothing. I think I'm good for now but time will tell.
