see http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/ratingsNewSticker.shtml for info on sticker. That site also shows the test routine used to derive the EPA estimates. They changed the testing scheme about 5 yrs ago and included some very agressive driving techniques to more accurately reflect how "normal" driving consumes fuel. This is why the European fuel economy estimates are so wildly different than the ones used over here. IMO the Euro numbers are "hyper miler" driving and not at all realistic. The good news is that you can easily beat these new EPA estimates if you try. |

For diesel engines I would recommend automatic, they are efficient, but boring, its better if an auto chooses the right RPM/gear.
Gasoline engines on the contrary with a wide RPM spectrum to use I would choose a manual. My F11 diesel has an auto, works perfect. My supercharged 330ix have manual, and love that in that car :-) Last edited by Touring; 07-14-2012 at 04:53 PM.. |

FINALLY
I posted this comment back in November: I would think they could get 50 MPG out of 4-cylinder diesel in the new 3-series. BRING IT ON BABY. Again wake up Munich Marketing. BTW any job openings for people that understand the U.S. buyer? I guess they woke up - Yeah!

Thats awesome! Best news I read today. Makes me think the n55 335i is arlready kind of obsolete, because BMW is constantly making changes and coming out with new things. I bet the F32 335i has more power, who knows maybe a different engine even. Interesting launches for BMW this next year or so.

About time!! In June I had the opportunity to take a 2012 120d 6mt hatch around germany and it was fun enough to drive while still getting amazing gas mileage. The whole time I was just grumbling to myself about how I wished they brought this over to the states...may come true in 3 series form soon!

But can the engines use diesel blended with bio-diesel? If not, you wind up searching for a station that does not use any additives (at least in the Midwest).
