Upgrading stock 17" to 19" on 2017 330i questions
Hi all, I have a 2017 330i with 17". I found a bmw 19" set with Dunlop tires (2018 540i): front 245/40/19r, back 275/35/19r.
will these work for my car? Do I need to do any modifications or can I just swap them myself? any other adjustments/concerns needed? Thank you! ![]() |

Don't think the offset would work on F30, stay with compatible wheels.

Check the bolt pattern because the new BMWs use 5x112 whereas F30s use 5x120. I could be wrong here, but I believe I've read that in multiple places. Either way, confirm for your own benefit.

Two negatives is that they'll ride harder and noisier and you'll lose gas mileage. |

Likely that's a bigger setup than what you have stock. Even if the rims could work, to match your current tire's circumference you'd need smaller tires on those rims. Perhaps 35 (front) and 30 (rear) series tires. I don't know what is stock on your car currently to compare..

Taller Tire and incorrect wheel rim offset. Beware of the issues all of the above can cause. If you run the 5-series 19" wheels as is on your 3er, I believe the standard tires will rub.
Most stock OEM 19" setups were staggered wheel set up and have higher speed limiter. So the tires are a higher speed tire (Usually "Z" rated or higher) and although they grip better, will wear faster. If you have xDrive, also be aware that these do have specific tire sizes that must be maintained for correct driveline operations. My xDrive runs a staggered 19" in winter and staggered 20" in summer. The front and rear tires must also be inflated at different pressures to keep the tire diameters as close to equal as possible. Stay with the wheels for a 3-series and avoid any headaches, good luck!

Thanks guys for all the wisdom. Decided to look through FB marketplace for bmw m performance oems that should fit my 330 like a glove. Would you advise to get the 18" or 19"?
I hear opinions for and against both. I live in Florida if that matters. |

You don't have to worry about potholes, but still with a shorter sidewall and less air capacity 19s have a harsher ride and are noisier than 18s, they don't handle any better, and the tires are more expensive. I suspect that the total weight of the rim plus tire is more with 19s as well, as aluminum weighs more than rubber.

Depends on what you're used to. My current 430i Sportline with OEM 19s (225/40/19) rides better than my previous X1 M Sport with 18s (225/45/18).

Wheel Size 330 ix
I have a 2017 330 ix wagon with 18" wheels. I'm assuming 17" wheels will give me a softer ride?
But I don't want to foul up the speedometer. If I currently have 225 45 R18's what 17" tire would give the same diameter? |

Your speedometer is already fouled up, they come from the factory reading 3% low. But you'd size the tire to a higher aspect ratio to maintain the same diameter anyway. As for the diameter find it at Tire Rack, they have specs on every size.
