SIB/TSB: BMW will reprogram Auto Start-Stop to default to last user mode
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com It will never come back on again one it's selected off. I can't wait. Service Bulletin listed below. SIB 12 15 12 INFORMATION The Automatic Start/Stop (MSA) system is a further BMW Efficient Dynamics measure aimed at meeting BMW's commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and enhancing fuel economy. BMW, always a leader in innovative technology, will be the first automobile manufacturer to bring MSA technology to all new models. Automatic Start/Stop systems will become prevalent in the future, as manufacturers strive to meet increasingly stringent emissions and fuel economy requirements. By automatically switching the engine off when the car is stationary, MSA can improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. New F-vehicles now incorporate the second generation of MSA (MSA II), which has been further developed to operate in combination with an automatic transmission and the BN2020 electrical system. A detailed description of the MSA Automatic Start/Stop function can be found in the ICP Technician library under Technical Training course ST1112. SITUATION Some drivers have expressed the desire to deactivate this function in certain situations. This can be done manually via the Automatic Start/Stop function button with the LED switched on, indicating that the start/stop function is deactivated. However, by default, the Automatic Start/Stop function is reactivated each time the engine is started. At the request of an owner, it is possible to modify this default logic to "Last user mode." With this logic, the current MSA's activated or deactivated setting is stored and used on the next trip. Note: All new BMW M models have the "Last user mode" as the default setting from production. |

I've turned it off once in bumper to bumper traffic.
Can't imagine why anyone would want to permanently code it off.

Nice find! I want to go have this done. I was going to code some other things but will probably do this until I get to it.

If you are going to the trouble to recode it, obviously you want it off a lot.

I have absolutely no desire to allow my car to turn on and off on its own, so I am happy to see BMW now offer this option. I will certainly make sure to have this coded before taking delivery.

I'm not sure why you find my comment so funny. It wasn't meant as a joke.

BMW will code ASS to default to last setting for free
I just picked up my car today and was told that the service department will code the ASS to remember the last setting as a default for no charge with approval from BMW NA. They will only make one free change I was told. For those of you who do not want to code, this would be worth looking into. Call with Vin ahead of time so they can get approval from BMW to do it.

My car is due this week. I sent my CA a request to have this coding done before they deliver the car. It would be awesome if sport could be set to "default" and button press back to comfort if desired.

I would agree, this should be standard feature. No cost to BMW and it provides convenience to their customers.
When I turn on SS it is also hidden behind the wheel, it would be nice to have a light come on in the instrument panel to indicate the status. |

Nope. I asked yesterday they said any type of reprograming takes 4-5 hours. You will be sporting one of their loaners in the mean time.
