F30 335 sport front bumper WHISKERS removal / install DIY
Hey Guys,
Heres a quick guide to replacing the bumper whiskers/blades on the F30 335 sport (non-M package). Estimated Time: 5-10 minutes Tools Necessary Optional: a flat head screwdriver/plastic molding remover Steps: 1. Take a look at the new whiskers and locate the clips. there are two on the passenger side and three on the drivers. Passenger Side: Drivers Side: Pass Side Demonstration: 2. Slowly apply pressure to the whisker to pull down and pop the clip against the fog light. (you can use the screwdriver/plastic remover to help pop the tab off) 3. Now reach into the bumper behind the where the whisker attaches to the bumper, it's hollow. 4. Referring back to the whisker not yet installed, notice how the clip is configured. It is easy to reach with your finger and press down on the clip and then slowly work the whisker out of place. *Note that you may need to apply a fair amount of pressure to work the whisker out of place, just have patience on this cause you don't want to snap the clip or the larger insert.* 5. now line up the new whisker and press. simple as that. i second that 1.fresh... me personally i have the base model and upgrading to the sportline foglight grills only(35 a pop). still debating on the whiskers tho..i guess ill see how it looks once theyre on there and how bad my ocd kicks in and take it from there.
imo, its personal preference.

Does anyone know what the section the whisker is in is called? The whole black section? I have a 320 and that lower grill (?) has no spot for whiskers, and I need to change the whole piece. Its currently all black plastic.

Nybimmer, if you don't have a sport the grill will not fit. I don't have the exacts as to why but I know it won't... Search it but I'm like 99% sure
Antbabee, I think it has to do with the stock intercooler(s) but don't quote me, that's based off working with Audis and vws

Actually, I think removing the fog lamps and keeping the whiskers as it is will make it look less like something is missing. Just saw this picture in google images and I liked it.
Ever since I have seen the m-sport with front bumper lip and splitters, I am regretting my decision of getting a sport instead of m-sport |

I replaced my silver whiskers today with black whiskers from IND. Went well --- thanks for the directions.
Only thing I'd add is that the black tabs on the "car side", not the whisker, do NOT move. The tabs are clearly not designed to move. So I had to gently pry the whisker "holes" to get them free. Once the small end was free, the bigger end popped out suddenly on both sides. Nothing broken, but it scared me. If something broke, it probably would be on the whisker side. Probably. Photos showing before & after. 2014 335i Sport, Mineral Grey. The black whiskers are 100%+ better. I was even able to move the clear bra that I had installed on the silver whiskers to the black whiskers. Check out how to install clear bra to get pointers. It involved a hair dryer for heat, a small container of water with 2 drops of detergent and a very gentle peeling back of the clear bra, trying not to stretch it. It worked fine. |

OH MY G! Thank you for this, and special thanks for picture 5. I was doing my install and freaked out like I hit some bird or pressure washed the piece of plastic off because it just did not look right, but it looks like you have the same weird one sided intake as I do.

More specifically this.
What exactly is this for, and looking at the post above mine, his gap between the intake and nada is much smaller, mine looks like a tiny piece of plastic has ripped off - the white could also be from the rushed DYI car wash I did and not thoroughly rinsing all the soap.

Note, you'll need to gradually increase the pressure, I remember feeling like I was pushing too hard, but then they came off. If your replacing them altogether, then you should worry if they break. However, if you're painting them, then just increase the pressure from behind gradually. At least, that's what worked for me. |
