I mean look at all those numbers on this fairly heavy sedan!
I was somewhat expecting half assed S2000 (as an owner of AP2 S2000), but then car felt more like camry, not even a angry camry, just pretty ordinary everyday camry.
You CANNOT hear ANYTHING even if you are on sports mode and 6k RPM.
I tried to downshift consistantly just because I couldn't hear any sound that felt like reaching a redline.
Also, even if at hard acceleration from 1st or 2nd to redline, car just went like ordinary civic beaten to death. No excitement, no engine music, no g-force, no nothing.
I have no idea how they achieve 5.9 0-60 with that thing.
Even if it's that fast, there is absolutely zero grunt and you won't feel that you are accelerating hard.

I had all my love for new 4 cyl from BMW and now, there's no way I would consider any BMW with 4 cyl. Good old 6 cyl is the only way to go for the BMW.
are you talking about the exhaust? i would agree there, but the engine definitely makes a noise.

There are about 99% of professional drivers that would disagree with that statement.

For some, that's a relief, because the road noise use to be horrible. Not everyone wants to hear the drone of their engine while they drive. That's why cars have radios.
Professional drivers won't be driving a 328 dd

Cool video... Looks like the 328 really struggles to get past 200 km/h and the 335 keeps eagerly pulling. I would love to see a tuned 335 vs 328 comparison

It went from a boring mid-size sedan with average performance to a snorting, burbling high 13 second car that still netted 35mpg on the highway. I am anxious to do the same to my 328, aside from it being too loud.
Yes, you could totally do that.
Reason of disapointment is because I cannot justify the price for such engine. I was never a 335 over 328 guy, but for F30, I would just drop a few options and get 335 for the money.
Way I optioned my 335i 3 years ago now costs around $51k for 328i, of course there are some missing options but still, over $50k for this kind of car doesn't make sense to me.

I have zero intention to offend any 328 owners by the way.

Exactly.
This is why I was surprised.
Everyone raved about it and some reviewers even said why go with 335 when 328 is this good.
But, at least for me, 328 didn't live up to my expectations (of course it doesn't have to) and it really felt like a camry.

Oi - who are you calling a crazy bastard?

You're quite right though - the logical choice was the 328i but I knew that I'd always be kicking myself and wishing I'd gone for the 335i, especially with my last 3 BMWs being sixes. The 328i just doesn't have it.

Does anyone have a comparison between a tuned 328 and a stock 335?

From a bench/magazine racing standpoint, tuned F20 numbers are nearly mirrors of stock N55 numbers, i.e. high 4's to 60, mid 13's at about 105mph.

I think that is almost the point though. The 328 is supposed to be in the luxury segment, not the "loud noise, snap your neck segment". BMW is trying to broaden the 3 Series market and attract people who want smooth driving and luxury, but want to know they can accelerate and "get on it" when they need to. People who might otherwise go for Lexus or something Japanese.

For many drivers in the "over 35 crowd" what likely matters is how smooth the acceleration is, not how loud the exhaust note is.They want the car to feel smooth and refined. For the die hard performance crowd, get the 135 Coupe or the M3. For drivers who want a nice smooth ride with with great safety ratings and technology, get the 328. That's why BMW makes different models.

All of that aside, BMW is in the business to make money. If the 328 looked, sounded, and drove like a 335, no one would ever buy a 335. They have to leave enough space between the two for customers to justify buying the higher model.

But that's after dumping some more $$ on a vehicle that already costs you over $50k with options.

I'd still opt for the I6 considering it has MUCH more potential. Especially if your going to spend the extra anyways. I think tuners will still be getting the 6 over the 4. The regular guy who's priorities aren't speed over comfort and havin a nice DD won't mind getting a 4.

Just my $0.02

The tune is $375. I also avoided options on my build lol.

I wanted economy for my DD while still having the attributes of a BMW, the proverbial cake and eat it too concept. I had that with my CC, all be it in a mushy front wheel drive experience. I have a 500hp straight six at my beck and call for nice days. That is why the 335 does not really appeal for ME and my needs. If I did not have the E36/7 in the garage, well I would have not ordered a 4 cylinder 328.

YES!!!

Nice comparison, maybe someone can make a similar 335 vs 328 video for e90 cars to see how much the gap between the models has changed?

I like the weight ad of the 328, yet i like the 335i sound and power

I'll take my S65 any day over these.

I guess I'm just going to have to settle for turbos come the F80.

Damn why didn't someone tell me before I wasted all this money on an M3.
Both cars have their definitve purpose... if you're interested in all out straightline racing. There is no current modern day BMW that can beat a single turbo 335...
You sound like you are 15. Nothing can beat a single turbo 335? How about a twin turbo 335?
