Very nice shivaswrath, looks good as new! I don't even have an ETA for my kit yet. I just know that it's coming sooner or later. Does this kit also fix the hinges between the seat back and bottom? Did you notice any scratches in the leather after the replacement?

They did an excellent job with the replacement, no scratches anywhere in the car. It took 2 days, so be prepared for that.

No rust on the hinges or anything...

I have just a few small rust spots and might try the brush on gel. It's desert dry where we live in S. Cal, so rust is not usually an issue.

i'm really starting to get annoyed. My service advisor told me he would have an answer in a couple of days. It has now been 4 weeks. I called BMWNA and they are supposed to follow up and call me back, nothing yet! Then I get a phone call from the service dept at my dealership wanting me to drop the car off. I ask why. She said so they can look at the seats. I told her they have tons of pics already and there is no reason for me to bring the car in or drop it off until they have the parts. She was clueless.

I dropped by the dealer and showed them the rust. Then they took a look at a newly arrived car to compare and it had even more rust. They had no idea. That told me to come back in feb when the factory rep returns.

I just had my seat fixed, according to the dealer I'm the second person reported the issue in Australia. They gave me a free rental car and they said they had the rust removed and seat spray painted. Took them 4 days and the "new"seat looks good

Just found out that my October 2012 build MY13 also has rust underneath the seat, albeit very minor still after nearly a year of ownership. I think I will just leave it since it is a lease. I feel sorry for someone who will buy this certified pre-owned after I return mine. Maybe I should still put a note for the poor fella in the future so at least they can get it fixed if need be.

Still sad to discover though. Sometimes makes me wonder if there's any possible brands with more quality concerns than ours...

That's why I will only lease cars from now on because of crap like this. It's comforting to know that what goes around comes around.

you might be able to get some sort of help from the dealer or BMW NA since this was a known production defect on early models. Worth a try

AFAIK it only affected the F30 up until 11/12 or so.

OK, this is really interesting. I can't get to my car now to take a photo but there is definitely rust on my seats, right down in the corner hinge where the bottom part of the seat connects to the backrest.

I'm curious as to what recall option this has? I've done a recall before with my 323i where the nicasil linings were replaced on my E36. It was a mega job but BMW UK did it all free of charge, even though the car was already over 6 years old!

I've no idea how recalls work in Spain. So far BMW customer service with BMW Iberia has been dismal.

ETA, my BMW is an F31 with Alcatara M Sport seats and was built in 08/12 and registered in 12/12.
