That said, I also agree that the owner of that car is a moron, the issue is that the mfgr. of the seat pan used substandard/no plating on one part, BFD. Get the dealership to paint or replace the seat pans, move on with your life. |

This forum never fails to entertain me. Really? Folks are uptight about surface rust on the seat frames? Why the hell is anyone looking under there anyway? NO manufacturer paints the frames. At best, they have whatever rust preventative remains on the sheet metal after manufacturing.
What you see in the pics does not have any ill effect on the seats. And it never will. Unless the car is full of water, what you see there will never change. People need to stop looking for trouble... |

WOW
Thats not a great problem to have.
I think a tad of an over reaction. I wouldn't have destroyed the car. |

Guy is a moron if he destroyed his own car over some freakin rusty seats. No one in their right mind would give him a new car over this. BMW was going to replace the seats anyway. Is this guy really that retarded?

Wow, what an idiot!
He obviously doesn't realize that most components in a vehicle are made from vendors, so it's not "completely" BMWs fault. If his subframe components were rusted badly this would be one thing, but getting a car bought back for a rusty under-seat panel is nuts. BMW could just replace that piece or replace the seat completely... I sure hope his insurance doesn't cover this...

What the people said about Korea is true regarding the car prices and how rich they are if they can afford a bmw. It's all about service in Korea and with this action by the customer, they will replace it or the owner of the vehicle will probably just buy something else. owning a bmw in Korea means you're that rich. btw, 320D in Korea costs around $51,000 before tax and the other stuff.

Having paid $90000USD for my E92 325i, in some ways, I can relate to the owner's feelings. When you pay this much money for a car, you expectations of BMW, fairly or unfairly, are naturally higher. I too would be disappointed, though I would not destroy my car, nor even sell it...you just have to be patient and work with BMW to find a solution that you can live with.
And that's probably where things fell apart. Warranty claims, in my experience, do not work the same way in Asia as they do in Canada where I am from. Here in Taiwan, you have to document, document, document, nag, nag, nag, and work your way up the hierarchy of command before getting legitimate warranty issues dealt with. This person may have had it up to his eyeballs before "snapping." And culturally, this is a valid statement of disgust in Asia. It's happened a few times here in Taiwan...one woman destroy her 6 series in protest and stood in front of the BMW dealership with her wrecked car for days. Generated media coverage, but I doubt had much affect on BMW sales, just as this likely won't. It's a tough issue. Just because my E92 cost $90000USD does not mean BMW earned a premium profit. I suppose the margins are inherently higher as I am less sensitive to an additional $1000USD tacked on the price than I would be if buying the car in Canada for less than half this amount. Thus, customer expectations are higher here because of the price, but BMW does not capture most of the huge differences. Sigh...I had a similar experience with my iPod shuffle...2 workouts and it died. No warranty coverage because it was exposed to sweat even though Apple markets the product specifically for work outs. I better go burn down the Apple store!. |

IMHO, the price you pay over there is outrageous, and you should expect some quality product for that price. In China,
M3 $175,000 335i $110,000 it is lucky to live in US. |

Rust Under Seats?
Not to sound stupid, but does the rust issue only apply to the F30 3 series vehicles? I purchased a 2012 M3 and took delivery in May 2012. Looking under the seats I don't see any rust, but it appears to have some surface changes on the metal similar in appearance to what howiegu posted.

Well if nobody here has lived in S. Korea, the country is naturally a very rust prone country. You will see a lot of the older apartments have turned brownish-green, like the statue of liberty. YEAH the apartments aren't made out of copper but the paint and ETC rusts a lot do to the humidity. Thats the best explanation i can give, it might not be as bad for others, unless they too are in a very humid country like S. korea.

Here are a couple pics of the underside of the seats. Might not be anything but I wanted to throw this out there. Any thoughts?
