n20 f30 320i 2014 oil consumption.

I have a bmw f30 320i n20 with originally 5w-30 castrol oil. It was making a litte ticking noice and it was empty after 2 weeks without any leaking.

So I assumed it was to thin and burned. Then i put in 5w-40 castrol oil and everything seemd good in the city and little pulls and sometimes pushing it.

Now here comes the problem. When i go on highway drives it burns ALOT. Crouse control 100KM/p hour and oil temp raises tot 110 degrees and after long rides (50-200km) i can see my oil being consumed by a huge amount in the iDrive system. Local weather temperature is 15-30 degrees.

I dont know if the highway rides have anything to do with it but i am lost.

Feel free to help me out

110C is normal at highway speeds. The usual causes of burning oil are rings and turbo. You might be better off with a high mileage 10w-50.
