Petrol consumption getting better.
I have done around 5000 miles in my 320i LCI (B48 engine) and noticed that my average mpg is getting better and better. My current average over that distance is 38.3 mpg.
Yesterday I drove the 27 miles to work which included motorway, A road, and some starting and stopping in traffic. When I got to work I looked at the trip computer and was amazed to see that I had averaged 53.5 mpg. I think this is really good for a car with this performance. My wife's under powered 1.6 Hryundai IX35 averages around 30 mpg. ..so very pleased. Any of you had better from a 320i ?

it doesn't surprise me that economy would get better as the engine loosens up, but not by that much! It's surprising how little differences in driving style, traffic etc can make such a huge mpg difference.

That's impressive. The B series petrol engines really do seem to be capable of fantastic economy, when driven in a economic manner. They are really narrowing the economy gap.
Increased economy could be a combination of loosening up and warmer conditions. My 30d is a few mpg up this tank as its been 20C+ in sunny Cumbria... I get 35-55mpg commuting. So many variables. Poor traffic in cold wet weather and 35mpg. Flowing traffic in warm weather and I got 55mpg driving in for morning shift yesterday!

You should take the on board computer figures as an estimate only as they do tend to be a little optimistic by a couple of mpg. I have applied a correction factor to mine but it is still not totally accurate. I have a 330i with 6k miles on it. The other day I did a 220 mile trip mostly motorways but some A roads and returned 49.8mpg which is outstanding. On a run it will easily achieve mid 40's and is as you say getting better, but around town it kills it, with short journeys really punishing it down to mid 20's, so it really depends on the type of journey. My calculated overall average from new is 35.9mpg which I am very happy with
