Speed Limit Info Emulator
Have just bit the bullet and purchased a Speed Limit Info emulator from Ebay.
Doesn't require the KAFAS camera, and works by using the stored speed limit info from the NAV database and sends that to the KOMBI and HUD. Only requires VO coding, and it's plug and play (depending which version you get). Will keep everyone posted. Link for item: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Speed-Limit-...-/232019856877 Link for thread: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1203393 Fingers crossed everything works... Will keep everyone posted

I was let to believe, by the dealer, that the AU NAV database does not store speed limit info due to AU law & regulations.
Interested in knowing how this upload the speed limit info into the database. Does it allow you to update the speed limit info in a regular basis (e.g. annually?) Good luck OP, let us know if works as I want to get it too :P |

have seen a few people who got it working with Australia next 2015 maps. I've also just purchased the 2017 maps, and will try it out once the emulator arrives.

Very interested. I think SLI is available on other Aus BMW - I was looking at some recent brochures but may have missed that fine print. Do you know if it also supports KAFAS2?

Is the reading accurate? Would that read school zone or Sth?

Can confirm this works, tried it today and the speed limit info works great, changes to the limit on the road.
I guess NBT does store info of speed limits and the emulator intercepts that to be displayed. Will post pics soon.

Tested the SLI emulator for a few days. Works as expected. Speed info changes almost immediately in a new zone without delay.
Some instances where the 3 dashes blink for a few seconds, which probably is more due to no speed info stored on the NBT database. Install was simple, no splicing of wires, and coding was straight forward. Adding option code 8TH and VO coding NBT and Kombi.

It goes off the speed limits stored on the Nav database. School zones don't get shown on the emulator or any changes to speed limits while road works are going on.
It's more of a static system.

Also bit the bullet and have bought one for my F25 X3. Will give feedback once I receive it and install it.
Did you get any errors when VO coding the Kombi? I have being playing around with the VO coding on my X5 and added 8TH as I thought it would work as I have all the hardware and thought it was only disabled in Australia for some technical reason in the X5. I have since found out you need a FSC code at some ridiculous cost for it to work. I got faults with forward alert with braking function and person warning malfunctioning both when I added the code and later when I removed it. Not sure why.

My emulator has arrived unfortunately the cable supplied does not match my existing cable that plugs into my Kombi I have taken photos of my Kombi part number and the plug itself and have sent them to the seller and am now awaiting a reply

As most have seen the speed data is stored in the maps.
Initially the SLI was withdrawn from Australian market due to the camera/software being unable to read all of the different Australian signs reliably. In the last year it is now available as all the kinks have been worked out. If your car is recent but just before SLI was an option it may be possible to retrofit it from the dealer. It just needs the FSC from the dealer and them to install it. I've seen a few members do it already. |

Problem solved
Quote:
I realised that I had to take the existing plug apart and fit the ebay supplied sli module cable male plug into the existing BMW supplied socket and then plug it into the instrument panel. I then took the male plug from the wiring loom and clipped it into a supplied socket by the seller which then links into with the sli module. VO coded the NBT2 and Kombi with 8TH and the speed limit came up with 50kmph before I even drove down the street! I have yet to test it out on the main roads but so far I am well satisfied with my purchase. Anyone thinking of doing this that has an X3 or X5 would be advised to watch the above utube video as I had no idea at first how to remove the instrument panel as there are no torx screws holding it in like in the F30. I used two Allen keys to pull the spring clips down and release the panel

I had the dealer in Canberra upgrade my 330i to include speed limit info.
Cost around $1000, TYPICAL BMW costs. But works great. Did the TPMS myself, for around $350, instead of 1500 from bmw |

Quick update guys:
The car was updated at the dealer to latest istep, wiped out the coding done previously. Recoded the car for speed limit info and the instances where the 3 blinks happen for the speed has not returned anymore. If you do see the 3 blinks randomly appearing, would suggest getting the car updated through dealer to latest istep level. Just beware that this would wipe out all the stored codings.

SLI emulator feedback
Been using the X3 out of town recently and have observed when I go off the main road onto a secondary bitumen road the speed limit indicator drops from 100 kph to a default 50 kph Not sure if this is because the data base for Central Qld is a bit sketchy or is it Australia wide?
Around town it is pretty good except around school zones and road works which is to be expected. Overall $140 well spent
