Scratch Repair - F32 LCI Centre Console Cup Holder Cover
My wife managed to scratch the top of the sliding cup holder cover on the centre console of my F32 LCI. She tried to pull it closed with some gloves shoved in there, which seem to have flexed the lid up causing it to press against the plastic housing as it was pulled shut.
I think I've got four options. Advice would be much appreciated. 1 - sand it with some wet & dry. Not sure if there is a thin covering/paint on the plastic and therefore whether it will all peel and look terrible if sanded. 2 - buy some grey/black matt vinyl sheet and put it on the cover to hide the scratch. Do do this neatly, I'd want to remove the cover from the trim. Plenty of YouTube vids on removing F30 console trim, but I can't see whether this cover can be removed from the bigger trim piece! 3 - replace the whole trim piece. Seems extreme... 4 - leave the cover open for the rest of time so I don't have to look at the scratch. |

Leave the cover open. Out of sight, out of mind. I don't see the need for the cover in the first place. I opened mine the day I got the car, to stick something in it, and it's never been closed since.

In the lower photo, what's the brown stuff all along the silver trim just above the cover, looks like rust
Beside that I would just sand it with 800 grit then paint it satin black |

It's coffee - I was in the middle of cleaning it when I thought about getting rid of the scratch for good.
Bellguy - do you know if it is possible to remove the cover from the larger trim piece to make it easier to paint? I think it would be a difficult to do it neatly in situ. |

If you remove the full trim part with the cover attached you should be able to slide it out, use the plastic trim removal tools to stop damage occurring to your trim, available off E Bay for about £8.00 the set of 6, so too cheap not to have them.
When off sand it with 400 grit wet and dry used wet, then with 800 grit, primer then satin black paint, will look as good as new. |

Thanks bellguy - I've already got some trim removal tools and wet & dry, so will just need paint. I'll post some pics when I get round to doing it - it might not be for a few weeks!

The silver paint on silver trim stains and doesn't rub out. |

Hi mate. Just been looking at your forum about the scratch on your sliding cup holder cover on your F32. I know it’s 3 years old but it’s the only one I can find which is talking about it🤣. Did you manage to take the sliding door out of the centre console?
