I have no engine mods. Don't bother with aftermarket charge pipes. They're unnecessary and due to the increased volume make lag worse. They also make installation of the intercooler more difficult.

In the market for a 328d. I've seen some posters comment on the N47 being better suited for highway cruising vs. city driving - I think this is due to the diesel clattering sound. Do other people agree with that? Do either of the Kermi tunes make city driving less noisy? Thanks!

I would say it is a perfect city car, I only wish ASS was longer duration… like 3 minutes instead of 60-90 seconds. I really miss it now during summer when temps are 95 or greater and it no longer operates. And winter when it is very cold and self disables for same reason.
I don’t care if it sounds from outside the car like an old Ford 8n tractor under the hood. It’s quiet inside and comfy and gets 30+ easily in stop n go. For comparison, it’s better than mini coopers and most other “city cars” yet can go cross country, carry 4 adults in comfort etc. And frankly it is about the same size as my old 5 series wagon that was lucky to get 22 freeway while I’m pulling 45+ now.

Can anyone answer how the DUDMD stage 1 tune + xHP tranny flash compares to Kerma Stage 2? Haven't been able to get an answer to this.
DUDMD stage 1 claims more gains than Kerma claims with their stage 1. If Kerma stage 2 just adds tranny optimization, and xHP offers customizable transmission software, it seems that you could get better results with DUDMD + xHP at a much cheaper price. Any issues with drivability seem like they could be resolved by adjusting the shift points with xHP app to your liking. Has anyone used xHP with a tune yet? |

Since different dynos were used by each, comparing them is like apples to oranges, so it's just not comparable.

Great thread and thanks for the dyno post and reviews. I recently purchased a 2014 328d XDrive and I'm thinking about getting the Stage 2 tune. Since this thread is almost 6 months old, I'm wondering if opinions/outcomes have changed (or problems occurred) since the OP and others installed the tune. Thanks in advance.

Make sure you fill it up completely. The passive tank transfers to the active tank via a pump while driving. So you may possibly be filling just 2.5 gallons instead of the full ~5gal.

An almost max fill from the 1000mi warning that you can do without requiring the pump transferring to the active tank is 15L/4gal. When you start going above that you need to start watching out for overflow if not using a self stopping nozzle.

Well I may have another issue then, I can never get more than about 1.5 gallons in mine no mater how hard I try. The above usage info actually came from correspondence with Kerma, so seems they expect some additional usage.

ISTA or a good diagnostic scanner can tell you the level for both tanks. I normally have ISTA fired up when I refill DEF.

Interesting development: KermaTDI is now letting you use your own laptop for the Stage 2 tune instead of waiting for a loaner laptop. Much improved and this definitely opens some doors as I remember the laptop was a sticking point, especially we are in a pinch to go back to stock for whatever reason.
Also noticed Stage 1 tunes require LCI models to send in their ECU for bench tune, while pre-LCI can be DIY still. While it's kind of a moot point now, but I'm curious to know if Stage 2 will pass the new CA smog test, either with the tune as-is or flashed back to stock. Supposedly it's checking for changes to the CAL and CVN IDs and I'm not sure if KermaTDI will touch them. Strictly speaking, the tune should be compliant as it doesnt alter any of the emissions components.

Isn’t the Kerma Stage 2, a tune for the transmission. To overcome the engine output limiter as well as edit the shift points? I didn’t think Stage 2 provided additional changes to fuel mapping or boost settings?
Note: I don’t work for Kerma, my information is from previous posts I have read. |

That's exactly what I was told by the person who will install the tune. There are 2 different processes (QPro tuner and laptop), but they work together. I'd go ahead and schedule before I leave town, but we have 3" of snow on the ground with more expected so there's no point!

Agree with FaRKle! that the part numbers for the front diff, rear diff, and transfer case are being used in higher output models. The 8HP45 was used in the pre-LCI F30 335xi and the torque limit with the KermaTDI tune was discussed here too. It's certain the 8HP45 can take on more and ZF tends to build in some margin anyway. It would be interesting to know how much the Stage 2 tune would hit the limits of the tranny.
