Another battery replacement thread (but with a twist)

So I've been looking into replacing the 12V battery in my car as it's almost five and a half years old, and I already replaced the main big battery, but I'm having trouble finding a replacement (non-BMW branded) for the additional 12V battery my car has (stacked on top of the big battery). So overall, the ActiveHybrid 3 has 3 batteries.

The smaller one in my car is 40Ah, 480A, 420CCA, 60RC. I don't see any indication of size, but based on my research it may be a "B13"? The part number on there returns a bunch of non-english results for the OEM of the battery (Varta) and has led me down a road to this Bosch: http://www.bosch-automotive-catalog....uct/0092S40010. Think this one will work? Based on the part number it looks like it has a higher CCA and may be 17mm taller?

Showing my work:

First Google result for that part number: https://www.autoteiledirekt.de/varta-7005222.html
RealOEM link for the current BMW part number: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...15#61217635788
Possible Bosch replacement: http://www.bosch-automotive-catalog....uct/0092S40010

Good job! There must not be many AH3 owners looking for batteries outside the dealership.

Varta B36 should work.
https://www.varta-automotive.com/en-...ic/544-401-042
Also Bosch S4000.

Sorry I don't have anything to contribute since I don't have an AH3, but can I ask about the main battery. Did you go with a BMW branded battery or did you opt for something else?

Another AH3 owner

I wish it was under better circumstances that I ask, as mine seems to be going bad, but did your replacement work out? My part number is slightly different (61217635788) but has the same 40 ah with 420 cca. My mechanic is pretty sure this battery is the issue but they are no longer produced.

As for the problems that led to this replacement, I'm getting ses light accompanied by message to not shut off car, as it will not be able to restart. The alternator spins up like crazy and then turns itself off. The hybrid system is being bypassed and the blower for a/c essentially is useless.

Anyone find a source for the 40a? I called BMW of Fairfax and they said that it's a "warranty only" part and cannot be sold to the public.

Did you resolve your 40 Ah battery problem ?

I am getting CEL with fault 220440 - aged battery on my 2013 AH3 and probably will need to replace that battery soon.

Thanks !!!

I have replaced two BMW 330e auxiliary batteries with Varta B36.
No issues, perfect fitment and all faults with batteries and issues stalling when starting resolved.
Battery registered using ISTA+ - no issues.

Is the auxilary battery covered under BMW's 3 year warranty? My battery is aged at two and a half year old and 50k kms!

2017 330e aux battery overcharging?

Hello all

I've seen some posts re: aux battery and starter replacement but has anyone experienced a condition of just overcharging of the aux battery? So far no problem with the starter or edrive engagement.

This just happened recently while charging, lots of outgassing/smell and extremely hot aux battery, voltage reading was around 14V while charging.

Thanks
