Satnav lack of detail on 450yds+

Hi,
Can anyone assist please? I'm finding the Satnav on my BMW rather annoying. (S606A Navigation system Business)
As soon as I zoom out to the 450yds zoom level I loose loads of detail.
I was driving on country roads and trying to navigate around a closed minor road I knew to be up ahead and found it impossible, zooming out left me seeing less than 0.5mile range (i.e. nothing) and yet with no roads - even the road I was on wasn't displayed. How are you supposed to navigate by map (rather than destination) if it doesn't show the roads?!
Any suggestions for getting more detail at lower zoom levels please?
(I'd rather not go down the perspective route as that way I don't even know if I'm heading in the right direction, i.e. I knew I wanted to head directly south, but couldn't see which roads too me that way.)
Thanks
Jeddy

Buy an older car! idrive 4 shows all the road detail at 450 yards, annoyingly the later models do not.

Sorry not particularly helpful

Which can't half be annoying when you glance at the screen and the bloody thing has changed what level of detail you can see.

As above, buy an older car, it's a 'feature' of the new versions.

Good to see I'm not the only one annoyed to Hell about this. I've got ID6 and looked in to getting ID4 fitted instead. I much prefer how it works and I much prefer seeing full detail at 450yards. I've no idea how BMW have managed to make a great system worse. :

Anyways, seems it's not possible as the hardware is different.

That doesn't sound good I think I have ID4 in mine but will be getting ID5 I hope that doesn't have the feature.

Think you will always have problems on minor roads, always worth carrying a decent map on your phone so that you can quickly bring it up.

Because every now and then, just every once in a while, they induce the biggest grin on your face that you're ever likely to get driving a mainstream car

I’ve had a loaner and rental with ID6. As mentioned, sat Nav is irritating and I found the same of the whole thing, happy to get back to my ID4 car.

I've been driving my new one this week with ID5...been used to ID4
Agree, it's a backwards step in some areas..
media is nowhere near as easy to use
And I can't find where to store addresses in for sat nav..
Shortcut buttons around the idrive wheel aren't as convenient for me
And my iPhone restarts to the first song every trip now....

Oops, that was an accidentally rant.

Lets face it with RTTI regardless of the idrive version you end up having to use the force to complete your journey.

Feel the traffic flow through you Luke.......

Hmm, oh well, at least it's not just me being dumb.
Still it'll probably save me some money in the long run - when time comes I have to start paying for map updates it's certainly not worth it if I'm going to have to rely on another device anyway.
