There was imperceptible difference between two MSports I drove back to back, 18 vs 19.
I just wonder if being an xDrive it's not right to compare it to a standard RWD as the suspension setups are different. I'll have the adaptive so ideally I'm hoping for a comfortable motorway cruiser in comfort and when I've the wife and kids in the car. And then for a bit of a B road fun in Sport.

I won't mind it being harder in Sport as it'll handle better and comfort is always just a button press away (Or 2 if I'm in Sport+).

Nothing to do, I've ordered now so just got to wait but no delivery date yet so I'm expecting I won't know for quite a while. Someone else will get theirs with 19s and adaptive before me on here I'm sure as seems a few have ordered earlier than me.

What I can tell you is I had an adaptive 330d xDrive to try and in comfort setting, it was absolutely fine on 19's. I do a fair number of miles and coming from a 7 series, I needed something that rode okay. I do think tyres can make a difference so will be interesting to see if mine is the same. Will know in 13 days

Ah well that's reassuring to hear. I don't think I could afford a divorce and having to get a younger more demanding woman so close to having splashed out on my new car.

Anyway will look forward to your review when you get yours. Your spec is pretty similar to what I've ordered if I remember right.

I have a 330D Xdrive Msport with adaptive and it seems fine in comfort and also very good in sport, mind you my other drive is a Z4MC on 19" CSLs.

Hi all, been reading this Forum while waiting for my car to arrive. very informative. TKs.
Have it couple of days now and here's my 2c: have adaptive drive and don't think its too soft. sure, some Body roll but couldn't fault it in any turns so far. Shoes are 18' RFT.

for those waiting for delivery: it's worth waiting for.

In relation to the 20" wheels, does anyone know if they carry the full 3 year warranty if fitted by the dealer when the car is new? Just asked as i discovered last week that one of my 19' performance wheels have cracked and was told it was due to the very low profile on our roads and it was quite common with some BMW wheels. My 335d is due in 3 weeks and I've ordered the M performance kit, but I'd be more than a little annoyed if after a couple of years the rims cracked and they weren't covered!

Thanks,
Ian

My demo car was a 330d xdrive with standard suspension and 19" wheels. It handled/ride really well on the 19" wheels which is why I thought I could go to 20" wheels. I am reconsidering now as I don't want a ride like I had on my e90 335d with run flats here the car banged and crashed plus skipped on bumps to the point where I fitted non run flat tyres.

I think that's where the adaptive should come in. If its a comfortable ride for long journeys on comfort but on the odd 5 mile blast on a B road you can go to sport and enjoy the better handling. Then when you hide traffic (Probably long before 5 miles is up) you can flip it back to comfort

The youngest is 6 and still gets sick on occasions from a long car journey. A hard suspension probably won't help with that as even I don't feel get sat as a passenger in a hard suspension car. My friend has an old Ford Puma and its so damn hard around town its just not a great place to be. He did mention when he got it he picked it for handling but now regrets having such a firm riding car.

Only problem is I think there is a difference between softer suspension and the effects a thinner tyre wall can have on the car....

You are so right, the thin tyre wall is a killer for comfort.

I will definitely go for 18's. I love the look of bigger wheels but I hate having to brace myself when I drive towards potholes! I've also buckled two alloys in the past so I can't afford to keep replacing them.
I'm sure 18's will be fine...won't they?!

I was torn between 18s and 19s. 19s look nice but so do the 18s. What swung it for me was comments here that the ride is just as good on 19s. I can confirm that the ride is excellent on the 19s.

What we need is someone who has driven on 19" and the 20".

I have driven on both and can say that the 19's have a far better ride. I have 20's and can say that life with them is not as great as they look!!! If you are getting 20's I would see if you can change tyres to 245/35 and 275/30 that should increase the side wall and give a slightly improved ride.

Is it so much worse that you would rather have 19" and sacrifice the better looks of the mperformance pack and 20"??

I saw a 330d with 19inch rims in the dealers and compared to say an E9x with 19s there looked to be more rubber on them than in the past. At first glance I'd assumed they were 18s because of the amount of rubber. This is what changed my mind and got me to re-add in the M Sport+ pack to my car.

I have msport plus too and am going to leave it at that and not go for the 20" wheels as I want a reasonable ride quality. Shame as they look awesome.

Nick stick with the 19" wheels mate, they are ok on UK roads and look good on a 3 series.
My mate ( not on forums) went for 20" after market wheels and god the ride is HARD.

Anyone seen a photo of a car with the m performance body parts but 19" wheels? Wondered how that would look or is that doing half a job?

Just found out also that they will only give a 2 year warranty on the M Performance wheels as they're not sold with the car also found out that my 335d has been delayed by 3 weeks! Not happy tbh

Need to break the news to the part manager that I'll not be taking the performance kit he's ordered in for me... should be an interesting conversation
